I went down a rabbit hole after looking into the never goodbye discog from the features on this album

Wtf is this/that genre called? All I see at best from all the musicians making this music is "indie rock" but it's very clearly its own style and scene right now

Never goodbye, cosigns, kaysnoto, I want to be a jack o latern, spawncamped, schizocat, pooterdabooter, and so many others

Reminds me when I fell into some ktt2 thread years ago when bar italia was just starting to catch on and there was a bunch of modern slacker rock stuff all similiar to them (or at least tracey denim specifically) getting reccomended to me

It's like what egg punk is, but in relation to shoegaze and leans further into post punk? But with hyper pop influence and something that feels close to descendents in execution? Idk but it's weird as hell how many established artists are doing this right now, s*** is gas

This album is aoty potential for me though tbh

I'm an outsider but I havent found what this scene is called other than playlists labeling it as losercore. From my understanding the originators came from hyperop/sigilkore, but there isn't a cohesive term for the sound they're all going for, which is strange since these artists seem to all collab together and have a strong fanbase. Feel like the core audience is probably young and discusses it on closed spaces like discord/roblox rather than public sites

Crazy name but it makes more sense why I can't find anything about the whole sound. So much is amazing though

Rereading how I described it seems spot on for losercore. Even specifically compared it to the descendents lmao

  • I wanna be famous on TV, so you'll hear me, want you to see me, up on the big screen.

on rym I'd tag it slacker rock, noise pop, maybe indietronica or hypnagogic pop. there's been a big wave of this type of sound since at least 2020, with Mica Levi, Dean Blunt and many other artists in their orbit innovating the current form of it afaik

"cloud rock" or digi-folk have also been buzz words to describe this more soundcloud based scene mixing a lot of different genres into one hodgepodge

  • Good production

    Mid artist

  • losercore is hilarious

Trojan Horse is great though. Really good and unique stuff. In a way, a most polished version of JPEG Mafia.
