i just checked, No Stylist was 2018, so i’d say that was his last real hit. not far off from 2017, but still.

French hasn’t been the reason a song was a hit outside of like 2-3 songs 10-15 years ago, he’s just been on hit songs that other people made hits for the most part. but that’s always been the case, it’s not a decline in the quality of his hits.

aside from Bobby (which it still boggles my mind people let him flop), Gunna’s the only recent* rapper off the top of my head to come home & not associate with the same stuff that got him locked up in the first place. but he was also never really part of the gang s*** that was allegedly going on, he was just close to the people who allegedly were part of it. so i don't even consider that much of a “betterment” since he wasn’t doing anything before either.

• never implied max was innocent or that his crimes were less egregious by comparison
• max has at least reckoned with his past violence and done his time, whereas french has paid out settlements to avoid pr ramifications and remains a bad influence, creatively and morally
