drakes influence is really interesting and kinda hard to pinpoint

like I could only give you five or six artists directly inspired by him

but at the same time i really couldnt see the game being the way it is right now without him

Yeah years ago you had a lot of drake "clones". Almost as many as Thug does today. There's no denying drake shifted rap, but that was years ago. Very unlikely he can do it again

  • May 6, 2021

nah f*** that can you believe damn was almost 5 years ago

    Still in a drake era.

He introduced the singing rap style that's gone on for more than decade essentially. He was one of the most influential for that.

i honestly dont see drake losing his spot unless he gyves it up

if Drake went Indie and did everything based upon an artist - consumer formula through self promotion/ social media

    the ENTIRE Industry would follow

Especially looking forward to a new Drake & Kendrick album.

J Cole is great but he hasn’t dropped a ‘classic’ since 2014. His early output is up there though. So I’ma still listen.

But Kendrick & Drake are gonna shift the paradigm 4 Real

We're finally expecting a release from Kendrick, Cole, and Drake coming so so soon. Either this month for K dot or June, OR Drake extremely soon.

This may be the true "future" of the 2020's defining sound for rap. We're pretty much at the point in time where the stuff from the late 2010's is not aging very well and the stuff that recycles the beats and instrumentals from it and also song styles have gone stale.

So let's prepare everyone we're finally gonna see a change

Lol Drake has literally dropped generic and uninspired trap music for the past few years and every single feature he's done is same vein, good or not. He's clearly not interested in any "artistic innovation" or change. Nobody else in music/rap can alter the general sound of the genre but him. No need to mention anyone else. Kendrick can't do it, and neither can Cole.

Nelly wasn't ever considered a "rapper" like that and Bone Thugs wasn't at the absolute top and had everyone focused on them.

Exactly. Drake was getting s*** for being "soft" for years cause he was one of the first "guys to talk about emotion" that went mainstream in rap like that

Uzi's break out hit WDYW was originally called "Thugger Voice" look it up. And carti was keef influenced too but he got his baby voice and slime lingo from thug

lol what. Pain 1993 is a wave riding attempt on Carti's vibe, so much so that nobody even thought it was Drake's song... Just Carti's featuring him. DLDT is the most "of the moment" music Drake has ever made... Wave rode drill, wave rode plugg beats, wave rode tik tok tailored rap... Ya'll stay d***riding. Nothing changed with any of his singles either. He dropped three songs that nobody is checking for now and that are nothing more than solid.
