"Reading?? Writing more than 2 paragraphs that isn't memes and smileys?? This aint Harvard lmaooo. We're proud of our bare minimum standards around these parts bro. All those words giving me a headache. I might need to go take a nap from writing this much myself in this reply."
@LABRADOR
1. the comparisons with other genres seem on point, i dont really know why you gotta a problem with that
I said why I have a problem with it, so here's an even more explicit version of it: Sounding off a list of genere references with no specificty when talking about a 19-track album is egregiously vague and only serves the purpose of appealling to viewers going "hey i know some of these words too!" in their heads — who then give weight and authority to someone for mentioning generic concepts they're also familiar with
2. I feel like everyone understands the concept of "doesnt really go anywhere". TO ME, it means that a song has a cool concept, but it doesnt actually progress into something worthwile, its just a cool idea. Seems actually fitting to the whole album.
"I feel like everyone understands this concept" — read my reply again; I repeatedly mention his generic, vague language (AKA, your feelings and universal "acknowledgment").
"Cool concept", "something worthwhile", "cool idea" — all of these are abstract ideas that don't actually saying anything about the music beyond superficial feelings. Which is exactly what I said when I criticized Fantano. You're literally replying to my criticisms with the exact things I was criticizing, and framing it as a rebuttal.
4. I dont know why you dont understand the whole filler, weird interlude thing. A half conceived song i think its probably the whole album, where its just cool ideas that dont progress to anywhere. the filler interludes are ideas fully executed, but it doesnt add to anything on the whole album, which is obviously different.
I don't know what the first part of this is trying to say because it's incoherent, but the second half turns the verbatim quote I criticized into something Fantano didn't actually say, and replaces it with: "Well TO ME, I feel like... I think that..." irrelevance.
you gotta relax my man, no one on the internet should actually get you this mad lmao
And you have to stop being so predictable with this kind dismissive nonsense.
A guy who presents himself as an authoriy can make 6-15 minute videos of garbled word salad "criticism" and there's not a dry eye in the house.
But when someone dares to scrutinize their rhetoric in detail and says there's a whole lot left to be desired... "lmao omg you're so mad! Why you get so mad on the internet?? 😂"
A truly gamebreaking zinger. I hope you mimed a mic drop after hitting "post" on that one, cause you've truly devastated me. If you would've posted that "calm mask on an seething face" meme, I might've actually disintegrated out of sheer shame.
gotcha, you want him to be more specific whenever he makes comparisons or throw out words "cool idea" "cool concept" i mean, yeah i guess that valid criticism. I can understand why would you feel some type of way specifically on this album, that i think requires a little more nuanced explanation
the fourth point i read wrong, i thought you meant something along the lines of having filler songs on an album with half conceivable songs.
I mean, i dont disagree with you, but i think GENERALLY, i can understand his criticisms, thats why i didnt feel the need for him to be more specific. Which, i think thats his appeal as a music reviewer. But i do think, for the most part, he does a pretty good job of detailing every single thing on why he likes or dislikes a certain album, thats generally my problem with you, which i feel like you discredit his "skills" as an album reviewers, because of a few album reviews
if you have a problem with the way fantano does reviews, then you'll have a problem with 99% of professional music critics, because i think all of them generally use the same language that fantano have. And, maybe you do have a problem with the whole concept of album reviews made by "professional reviewers" but its not a discussion that i care to have
so annoying how his fans call him "melon"

This is the problem though. You're admitting to doing most of his work for him, based on what you personally do or don't understand (or believe he implies) — and then you're giving him credit for it.
And a handful of reviews picked from various moments from a period of 10 years is, in the majority of cases, a solid metric for gauging someone's rhetorical style. Especially when it's so readily apparent that his style hasn't changed between 10, 7, and 2 years ago. If I can pick 3 reviews from those time periods (the third one, The Ooz, being chosen from a random playlist of his stuff on YouTube), and find the same rhetorical issues with all 3, then there's clearly something wrong with the whole "you just talk about negative reviews of albums you like" argument.
You talk about how many reviews he writes/uploads per day/week — but that's just an neverending deflection; even if I published an actual book that covered 100 of his video reviews, you can always say: "Only 100? He's got like ten times that amount. This is so selective and in no way reflects his general merits."
I stopped paying attention to TND around 2018. I will say he played a big role in discovering new music I like today. I feel like he got caught up with being an E-celeb with this strong political agenda and idk it just felt like it was turning into “What new popular music related topic can I assert an opinion on?” as oppose to the music journalism he was doing that seemed genuine and passionate. I don’t blame him for going in the direction he’s in, but he’s always been cheeky

i think my phrase "but i think GENERALLY, i can understand his criticisms, thats why i didnt feel the need for him to be more specific." mostly applied to the OZ review.
I only watch his reviews of albums that i've listened, and everytime i hear his arguments on to why he liked or disliked, i usually agree with him and consider every single argument valid.
I always come out with the thought of "i appreciate his opinion, but i still enjoy listening to this album". This is honestly the first time i've seen him give on sorta half assed arguments on an album that probably should require a much more detailed review.
i now understand your last point. if you wanna tackle these issues with Fantano, then i agree with you, but generally 99% of the people that think Fantanos content is trash, is usually because he gave their favorite album a negative review

The criticisms i talked about out in my original comment made up the entirety of that review though. I think I even said that in that post.
Other than that, we can end this here then I guess
He used to be way more reasonable tbh, mans success really got to his head
And it's not like he's a millionaire or anything either. Man gets decent revenue and then acts like he's 14
