He never "used to make good points." He was never even a fan of music until he dropped out of school and copied his friends idea of doing brief ironic album reviews on the radio to make a living

He's excellent at giving the illusion of credibility and fooling both dumb and genuinely smart people into thinking he's "one of them" because of the way he looks, speaks, and the carefully crafted genteel persona being supported by calculated displays behind him.

Fantano is the guy who said Pop Group's first 2 albums are identical in style 3 years ago. Fantano is the guy who said Yeezus was "a Death Grips ripoff" 7 years ago, despite Yeezus having only 1 industrial track, but just like thousands of kids on here and YouTube who don't actually know anything about styles and what makes them, "sounding vaguely similar" is good enough for him to say it like its fact.

People really aren't aware of how far being a good public speaker can get you.

Damn it's crazy you said that because I have a similar opinion, He never "used to make good points." He was never even a fan of music until he dropped out of school and copied his friends idea of doing brief ironic album reviews on the radio to make a living

  • They going in on him for no reason tbh, he’s on the receiving end of the hive mind

Idk why ppl think it’s taboo for a music reviewer to flame a teenager

The fact that he was sooo sure that Kanye was just copying Death Grips, yet seemed to be totally unaware of industrial rap (or industrial sounds in general) or experimental hip-hop before their existence. Artists like, idk, Saul Williams...the guy who made Niggy Tardust in 2008. The guy Kanye was an avid fan of for years, even forcing his way backstage once at one of Saul's shows to ask him "how does he do what he does."

Nah. Just a ripoff Death Grips because... checks notes loud abrasive sounds and yelling. Yeah, I'm sure that's it. 🙄

I wouldn’t be surprised if Yeezus took inspiration from The Age of Adz by Sufjan Stevens. Ye took a picture of him listening to Carrie & Lowell too.

Sufjan was toying with heavy electronics, synths & glitch vfx for that album.

Bon Iver took major inspiration on 22, A Million. Kendrick also sampled a track. It’s one of the most overlooked projects that goes virtually unnoticed.

I wouldnt be surprised either. Kanye's range of influences is really huge, especially in this 2000s and early 2010s. All it takes is looking at 2 or 3 pages of his old blog that was basically his own version of tumblr where he posted anything that inspired him. Hundreds of pages of completely different images and types of media.

Saul Williams a poet extraordinaire. If you're looking for traditional rhyme schemes and flows you won't really find that. What makes Saul so great though are his lyrics, he's a pure poet, and has rejected the practice of rhyming and flowing and has embraced just speaking truth to power.

He's not for everyone, but if you just wanna hear some real ass s***, you don't need to look any further.

With all that being said, Niggy Tardust is dope though. My advice is go into it expecting a more punk and rock vibe than straight hip-hop.

    That actually sounds kinda incredible

Aight now that I’ve heard the 16yr olds music I can say that he’s good and I’m kinda happy Fantano handled this like a straight up d***head because this will probably make the kid better. I don’t think he’s just gonna have some grown bald hating clown try to play him and not be motivated to level up.
