Like you were contrasting preferences based on nostalgia with non nostalgic preferences, right? I’m just saying you could argue that nearly all preferences are based on memory and expectation. All of it is subjective and predetermined whether you like an album because it came out when you were 14 or you like an album because it uses song structures or genre conventions that you were familiar with growing up

well i personally find it pretty gross hyperbolic or not honestly, people who like to slam science whenever they can keep reductive statements such as “it’s just X” or “it’s just the brain doing that” or “it’s nothing more than insert scientific study here”
my point is, that understanding the mechanics and processes of something doesn’t holistically explain the actual nature nor experience of what that thing is, particularly music and other things pertaining to experience—it’s more philosophical than anything else

Our minds are so complex and explaining away any other opinions as if you're blinded by nostalgia is naive at best but if anything science shows babies are more likely to throw away the old toys in favor of new toys. Even if it's the same thing people simply prefer new product
