My thoughts on what ive read are: retro is still top notch when it comes to art direction and sound design. These places look jaw dropping and the soundtrack are as metroid as It gets (hopefully Metroid 6 follows suit, dread's ost was dreadful). The previews themselves didnt show much but the overview trailer had some cool powerups and scenarios even involving other GF troops which have lots of potential so im very interested in that. This is what Tanabe has always wanted to do so it does feel like a deliberate decision, hopefully his vision is one i'll share.
I will admit im worried about more npcs populating the playthrough, but that all depends on how they're written, how involved they are and how much does their presence change the game feel.
On the desert, the jury is still out. The overview trailer showed there are resources to gather, quests to follow, secrets to uncover and even boss fights, on top of the area being generally a sort of hub like the old 3d Zeldas hyrule. I hope it doesnt destroy pacing and adds to the level complexity and non linearity.

I thought previews would've been about the desert itself but still, what we got is only a very small fraction of the whole experience.
Critic reception i think will verge on the npcs im afraid, as the previews were very positive in general in all the other aspects.
I only want this game to score great because of word of mouth, otherwise idrc about its reception, my thoughts havent aligned with any reviewers' in 90% of the cases.

Im actually more interested in the Mark Brown's and the like videos that focus more on specific aspects of the game, its clear fundamental changes are being made to the prime structure and im curious about the incoming debates on the topic

My biggest fear is hearing this myles dude giving too many hints, thats not at all what Metroid should be, hated that in zero mission (although funny enough i still think that game is a classic) and fusion.
But retro got everything else right, they cant possibly fail at THE most important aspect of these games

Playing the trilogy back-three-back could eventually start to wear itself out on the player (especially having to play Echoes ) and then they drop the games and don’t pay attention to MP4, which needs all the support it can get at launch just for the sake of the series.

Regarding the NPCs and the Galactic Federation, this narrative setup seems like the natural follow-up to MP3, which focused more on GF NPCs than previous Metroid games so I’m not at all surprised that Retro is heavily leaning in this direction for the sequel. It all depends on the execution of said game element.

And the Galactic Federation being more prominent in the storyline goes back to Sylux, who has beef with them as well.

Man I wish they’d remake Hunters..
Idk if it’s just nostalgia speaking; that multiplayer mode had no reason to be that fun & impressive on puny underpowered DS hardware.

Finish Remake not too long ago. I'mma try to beat both 2 and 3 before this comes out.

I’ve actually never beaten Prime 2 since it feels like a chore to play through
This MP4 hype is making me go back to it and finish it once and for all though.
I would be playing it via the GameCube version btw (wish I had the Wii version).

Idk. Ive always love Prime 2. Probably more than 1. Theyre all backtracky.
People get so caught up on the ammo system in 2 but you never will actually be soft locked out of ammo.

    Gonna play on Dolphin.

It’s more of the dark world (or whatever it’s called) being too oppressive that saps the fun out of the game. Lowkey it seemed like a gimmick.

The ammo system never actually bothered me lol

not asking him to speedrun games bro he can easily pace himself between playing those 3

also he can just buy 4 when it releases and save it until he beats the other 3

Yeah exactly, which is why im willing to wait for the results, its just that marvel ass dialogue that i hate and hope its not a quirk that every character shares

The NPC dude isnt funny on his own but Samus clearly having no patience for him is, I like the dynamic lol. As long as it's a small part of the game (and it looks like it will be) I don't see any issues

In actuality this game reminds me so much more of the old 3d zeldas, to the point i think that bitter fans not happy with the direction of the series post botw should check out this game instead

I noticed that too, she looks to me as annoyed by him as us. I at least hope he chills out with the marvel comedy later on in the game as a reaction.
As a sidenote, human faces in this game look tremendous for a switch game, almost ps5 level to my eyes. I cant wait to see samus model

there's a clip on the japanese website from way later in the game (I won't post it and don't advise you to seek it out, it's pretty spoilery) where he goes for a high-five and Samus just walks away

Might play 3. Didn't play Prime 2. Beat Prime 1 when it first came out.
