I would say the underground now is more consistent, the floor is higher, but back then the top level underground artists were way better than the top artists now. Way higher highs back then and more artists crossed over

YT sucks but I think the scene and sound he’s associated himself with is a real grindcore moment for rap, there’s finally a subgenre with a midsize audience that’s so purposefully alienating on a rhythmic/tonal level that it won’t be sanded down into a mainstream commodity
