Oh absolutely.. this is a great breakdown of the multitracks.

MJs songs were always so layered + complex yet sounded so simple and pleasing to the ear

I think MJ is master of "being simple" but using what's there to it's MAX - (of course there are outliers where he goes full maximalist too n still makes it sound not crowded or overdone) - a master of taking whats already there and adding layers upon layers and lil edits n twists of them

He could just do vocals layers on layers and one sound and it would sound full

Which he did basically do on Love Never Felt So Good OG, just vocals and a Piano with finger snaps and it's amazing (and one of my personal favs ever)

I watch the producer breakdowns for him and others of that era like Herbie n Prince n Madonna etc. And one of the cool things about MJ how he mostly kept the same underlying motif and rhythm throughout his songs BUT it doesnt get old or become background noise because they will do these lil transition edits and do the same chords but with a slight variation that add to breaking up sameness while not taking you out of the groove, then they let the one or two main instruments do all the drastic changes.

Super awesome. This is the stuff I wish interviewers did dives into with MJ other than "who did you go out with last night" type gossip

Matt Forger I think it was spoke about how they would play the songs at different speed so when combined it would make thicker clap sounds, like on Man in the Mirror. Just insane all these little cheats they used to make some of the best music ever

  • Man I get happy seeing Mike win
