definitely giving to the a-side in this case, especially cause I knew the smoke version for years before I heard the 7 other renditions I'm a sucker for a good b-side too but Motown didn't have many compared to other labels cause shrewd Berry Gordy wasn't about to waste a potential hit. Martha and the Vandellas the only ones that managed it several times

i've been meaning to go through their discog one day, but i've only heard a few singles and dance party so far
berry gordy was obsessed with diana so the supremes got all the marketing and production money and first dibs on songs but the vandellas got way more soul and martha could vocally wipe the floor with diana
