Black or White would probably be difficult because of the hard-coded resolution of the digital effects, I'd love to get Remember the Time tho

Yeah, it’s why Billie Jean is more complex too.

The short films were shot on 16/35mm film & edited on tape so any effects would have to be recreated.

The positive is that all of the Thriller & Bad short films should be easily restorable to minimum 2K. Thanks to Moonwalker we have some of them in HD already.

Off the Wall and everything after Bad is seemingly on tape so will never be true 2/4K like these Beat it and Thriller uploads, which is a real shame.

Whenever you get a chance could you give me an ELI5 on why/how restoring 16/35mm film is easier than whatever other shooting method used back then lol

This stuff really fascinates me bc I have no idea what’s going on

It’s super complex but basically film reels can be scanned in at much higher resolutions (theoretically up to 6/8K)

Tape reels that the later short films were edited on don’t have that luxury because I believe the source material isn’t capable/good enough quality to store such a level of detail.

Filming and editing on film is very expensive and very difficult. The Bad World Tour had a few dates shot on film and the staff involved said it was super difficult to swap out the reels, costly & needed lots and lots of film reels to capture it all.

Think of it as paper, if you printed on glossy photo paper and scanned it on a PC you could get it looking pretty great. If you printed on toilet paper and scanned it, you’d be limited in your options.

It’s truly magical what technology can do.

I want them to do something about this terribly edited billboard that sticks out like it was inserted by a fan in the 90s

It’ll be really interesting for sure. The short film has great memories for me.

They gave out a free iTunes code to download it when you got your This is It concert ticket from Ticketmaster.

Funnily enough, Thriller is meant to be one of the best parts of the show

The best part of the show of course was the dancing by the MJ character, there were actually points where it felt like you were really watching MJ on stage for real.

The singing was very good, of course not MJ level but close enough.

The stage design was great especially the set changes/transitions, they were so damn seamless.

The weakest part of the show to me was the story, it feel like it could’ve gone deeper, and the acting was pretty average but it’s a musical.

The main character had people doing standing ovations for his performances. He was electric. Thriller and Smooth Criminal in particular was crazy.

Yeah I’m def curious about the performances. Smooth criminal got to be theatrical as hell.
