The initial wave of praise was "paid for" yet this review bombing where the reviews don't discuss the film and get the actors names wrong are perfectly fine

Let's see who has the last laugh

The only thing this affects is people who were already celebrating a best picture and actor nomination

This never looked like the complete story or great storytelling to me from trailers . Just looked like reenactment of some concerts and nostalgia . That’s okay . Not a bad movie to me conceptually it’s just feeding the fans

They're saying the movie is mid unfortunately

It's moreso the concept of the reviews especially when those reviews aren't about the film itself

Not that hard to understand that I'd imagine

I'm not a big fan of biopic of celebrities in general. Especially Biopics made by family and friends from the person in question. They tend to be Puff pieces, and sanitize any negative aspect of the person as much as possible.

It's difficult to review a biopic without detaching your feelings towards the real life celeb. It'd be different if we're talking about fictional movie and you went "i don't like it because Brad Pitt is a bad person in real life".

From what i see this movie sounds like it largely glosses over the most controversial aspects of MJ's life. And regardless how one feels about it, it is reasonable to find it uncomfortable in jarring to have a movie that glosses over all of that to just praise and celebrate him non stop. Its a reasonable critique to not like the movie it doesn't at least address the controversies with nuisance.

And when part 2 comes out, what will the crying be about then

When the movie was announced everyone said you can't cover MJs life in one film

Because it ends in 1988. The second film covers these things. So it's a f***ing stupid criticism.

And the reviews are rooted in fiction because what they cry about not being depicted never happened

So when part 2 comes out and they moan again that it's sanitised purely for telling the truth, maybe what is going on will become obvious to those blissfully ignorant enough to not see it now

It’s mad funny cause it was known since last year that it was going to end in the 80s or early 90s before the allegations. Idk why people are up in arms when it was said to be a sequel since the movie itself would be too long
