I couldn't care less if the movie is awful

I didn't like the trailer, and probably won't watch it anytime soon

what I find absolutely insane is how reviewers are talking about Michael Jackson himself through this

it's 2026 and they are still doing the same bullshit man

You actually think all the 1/10s doing nothing but talk about the allegations + media rumours are genuine discussions about the film?

I have read a fair share of reviews and will watch the movie of Saturday before giving a full opinion but from what I have gathered the criticism is not based on the film not touching the allegations but the fact that it doesn’t portray his early life struggles and how he reacted to them or shaped his persona.

Which review did you take issue with specifically

It'd be easier to find a review that actually discusses the film and not tired media narratives

This is not too bad. It's not positive but it's not full of outdated bullshit.

No one expected a cinematic miracle. Its a biopic. These 1/10s just aren't genuine complaints about the film and destroy any genuine discourse.

This is the majority of the reviews making up that RT score btw:

It's not a review of the film. It's a desperate cry because they can't control the narrative.

Idk, I clicked on two reviews on Metacritic and they seemed pretty valid. One of them blames the reshoots for gutting the original story. They call it flashy spectacle with one dimensional characters. Sounds par for the course.

Edited by the same guy as Bohemian Rhapsody. So if you want to cry foul, that's probably the comparison to make. An Oscar winning movie by an Israeli pedophile with the exact same shallowness and gloss.

Yes, most fair reviews point that it lacks much depth, following typical biopic tropes with standout performances by Jaafar and Colman. That's fine. That's a discussion about the movie.

The majority of the reviews are almost not even discussing the film, just the narratives around MJs character that they still can't get to stick

The 1/10s. Just not believable in any imagination.

Wild how it has been almost 20 years since his passing and I feel we will never get a truly “unbiased” portrayal of MJs life. You either getting this or Finding Neverland type s***

A "genuine" portrayal would probably be seen as too boring because of the lengths at which the lies went

And what about the critics who also have a very evident bias that have review bombed this now the embargo has lifted

Or is their bias ok because they are "critics"

The idea of professional film critics having a "very evident bias" and "review bombing" this movie is killing me

Why didn't they just make and market a concert movie? Would likely be unanimously praised especially since Jaafar seems to be the one element of the film that everyone can agree was excellent

Don't understand the point of trying to make a "biopic" and just doing the concert film thing with bits and pieces of Lifetime tier drama sprinkled in
