Head of Lionsgate straight up saying that the sequel is very likely. If anything the hurdle is getting it into production either this year and next since Antoine is shooting a Netflix movie with Denzel Washington this summer. No full script for the sequel has been presented yet.

If I had to guess, it goes into production late next year for a late 2028/early 2029 release

Wait I thought they filmed both parts back to back??? Did they think a MICHAEL JACKSON MOVIE was gonna flop or what? I was fully expecting part 2 in 2027

  • Shooa

This gonna sound really stupid, but there was a frame in the last sequence when he looked so much like that nigga that I got scared for like half a second

I was like what the f*** that’s him

lol i swear they kept using a particular angle to frame jaafar's face that made him look uncanny

I think there's a lot of conjecture here and I'm not sure if you've upset yourself watching a Fantano video or if you're just upset the biopic is doing well.

Fantano + others, (presumably including yourself based on this post) seem to have an opinion that Michael Jackson fans will blindly agree with his behaviours across every aspect of his life.

That's not really the truth, and I know, being part of this world for 28+ years. Agreeing and accepting/understanding are two very different things.

I'll be honest. There is no agreeing with certain aspects of his life. When you apply common societal norms you will find that Michael was very different in a number of ways (not just in this area).

But you are also not understanding the why this was. Michael Jackson didn't have any societal norm in his life. When you compare him to the man down the street, was the man down the street violently abused and exploited from a young age, before becoming the most famous person on the planet by their early 20s?

Look at Rose Fine, look at what life was like growing up as a Jackson 5 member for him. You start to understand the experiences that shape the viewpoint of life as a whole.

Neverland was a safe haven for all. For all the children this, children that and "creep" behaviour did you know Neverland frequently hosted days for all age ranges (including specific Senior days). Did you know Neverland was open on these days whether Michael was there or not? There are hundreds and thousands of people who visited Neverland, shared their stories of it, and Michael wasn't even there. Neverland was a slice of life he could not enjoy or experience outside of those gates. No one else could understand what that would mean. Look at the videos of MJ being hired out a retail store with friends in disguises so he could see what grocery shopping was like. Think about how impossibly sad that situation is.

Most of Michael Jackson's behaviours and thoughts would probably have suited being unpicked with a very experienced therapist from a young age. But when you are exploited to the level he was from the wide range of people he was (including medical professionals), these things aren't an option. HIPAA laws weren't a thing until 1996.

There is no agreeing with certain things. But there is an understanding. Applying context. And not just personal context. No personal experience will ever suit what Michael Jackson was in any aspect of his life. It's never happened before or again and never should. Because it's a very lonely tale of exploitation from the very beginning.

And there is certainly a difference between behaviours that do not fit societal norms, and criminal behaviours. And that is a whole separate discussion.

You are talking about things someone recently wrote about that I found quite interesting. Maybe you will too. Take a read:

The original film sounds like it would've been quite interesting. By all accounts it starts with the 1993 Neverland strip search, before going to a Jaafar voiceover of the early moments of Michael's life. The film seemed to end with a Heal The World HIStory Tour performance, but the script was actually quite dark and the Lionsgate exec said he couldn't believe the Estate had approved it. I think the film included several infamous Chandler money grab moments - moments Chandler's had written about in their own book (why they admitted to these is still beyond me).

Fast forward a 'lil later and they realised nothing about the 1993 accusations could be dramatised, which were most of the film. The MJ Estate has to pick up the entire reshoot cost (roughly 20 days in mid 2025), and a new target date of April is set. Diana Ross then requests not to be in the film, which means a large part of Plan B is also scrapped.

It's a bit of a miracle they managed to salvage something for the film we have.

I think Antoine said they'll have some usable footage (specifically Another Part Of Me from the Bad Tour, and the 1993 Superbowl). But it depends what timeframe do you pick up from? What story do they tell? Given 1993 is off the table, it'll make it very difficult.
