    TL:DR:

    Exclusivity:

    • 4 titles being made multiplatform. Phil not naming said games now as he wants the Devs to be able to do the announcements themselves. All games are over a year old though.
    • Starfield and Indiana Jones are not among the 4.
    • No promises beyond these 4 games.
    • Phil believes exclusives are going to become less of a focus for the game industry in the next few years.
    • Community driven games seem to be among the more likely games to go cross plat.
    • 10 major releases coming in 2024.
    • More to be shared at the June showcase.

    1st Party games and Gamepass:

    • Restating that all 1st party games will still always be on gamepass day one.
    • ABK games coming to game pass. Diablo 4 coming March 28th

    Crossplay/Crosssave:

    • Believe crossplay/save are integral to xbox games.
    • Want to work on "catching up" as more teams are integrated into xbox on this.

    Hardware:

    • "Hardware is where you get the most flagship seminal experience for xbox."
    • "More creators building for xbox than ever before"
    • Focused on making the largest technical leap for the next generation.
    • Hardware announcement is coming this holiday season.

    Game preservation:

    • Phil looks to how windows handle compatibility.
    • "Cloud saves, server life, and making sure they respect the investments people made in xbox is fundamental"

Going to go out on a limb and say the 4 games are SoT, Grounded, Pentiment, and Hifi-Rush.

As for the hardware announcement, it is like going to be the XSX refresh that was leaked back in September.

It’s a great thing in the moment I don’t disagree

But here’s how this is gonna play out (best guess)

They port everything over. Some “we want everyone to be on the Xbox ecosystem” type saying. Sony gamers get Xbox games, populations increase, etc etc. all good right?

The issue is Xbox hardware. If all these games are on PlayStation, and no PlayStation games are on Xbox. Why would ANYONE get a xbox. They are gonna try to say Xbox is the only place to get gamepass, but that’s not even close to a big enough sell. No one is gonna buy a f***ing Xbox. Then the hardware resources will dry up, Microsoft will stop funding r&d for new Xbox hardware, and before you know it you only have Sony and Nintendo in the hardware game.

The Xbox “ecosystem” will still exist… in what form idk, xcloud, gamepass (if Sony / Nintendo allow it?), achievements, their pc storefront. But hardware part this gen??? Idk

And tbh Sony and Nintendo don’t even compete against eachother so it’s a one “primary” console game. No competition. That’s no good for anyone

No console competition is terrible for consumers.

you don’t think there’s any chance it forces the hand of at least sony to port their games over to xbox? no one, the public, likes the side that refuses to engage in such tactics. will be bad PR if they don’t.

lastly, yes maybe bad for consumers, but ofc all that matters is bottom line to these companies, and even to consumers some these days, and i’d imagine microsoft’s bottom line would improve without having to make hardware. put the money into the game development, where most of the profits are generated anyway, and ditch the hardware space(smart idea anyway imo. not sure what the future of gaming hardware looks like as we currently have it. minimal innovation recently has it relates to purely hardware)

I don’t think in a million years Sony will port a single game to Xbox if that’s what you’re asking

Sony fought extremely hard to stop cross play until Fortnite stepped in and forced their hands, there is absolutely .000000001% chance Sony ever ports first party exclusives to Xbox.

  • It’s been over for Xbox

This will just be them admitting it (or saying it without actually saying it)
