On Sunday, the Associated Press released the results of a year‐​long investigation into sexual misconduct by police officers across the country. They found about 1,000 officers over a six year period.

The AP story reported that the 1,000 number is “unquestionably an undercount” of offenders because of the scattershot nature of police misconduct reporting, prosecution, and internal administrative discipline across states and departments.
