I thought this season was a drop in quality compared to the first two but the ending made up for it

    The ending

this season was better than mha for me. this and mha are the only anime i've watched from this season but this show kind of largely makes up for what mha lacks in emotional depth. I hate to say it but every time i watch that show now, i can't help but think about how they force each character to have happy positive stable functional relationships with each other. it seems like each interaction involves the characters smiling and being happy and having no problems and being basically carefree. midoriya while to some degree likeable as an mc has not nearly the level of emotional depth mob has. we see his flaws in parts but he seems like the kind of character who's flaws are never treated with the same degree of seriousness and creativity that mob's flaws are treated with.

i think the point of the show on some level at this point is to explore this concept of mob as an mc. maybe one of the most imbalanced MCs of all time, mob has more power than literally anyone else introduced in the show so far. not power that he has to work to earn like a prototypical action mc, but power that he already has but most of the time simply can't access. on the other hand, he is easily one of the most mousy and docile MCs that i think have ever been created. he typically doesn't express anger and when he does, it seems to manifest through his power outbursts. i guess the point of the last few eps this season was to demonstrate how much emotional baggage he's carrying within him leading to this explosive outburst where he unleashes it all.

i guess the real lesson in mob psycho is not to create this story about a hero reaching their goal and destiny, it's more to showcase the beauty of being fragile and honest with yourself from time to time because it's clear mob isn't always honest with himself and i think that's where his power outbursts seem to stem from; a contradiction between his subconscious desires and outward expression. I think maybe a culminating point for the show could be mob resolving this contradiction upon which he may be able to use his power as freely as he wants without losing control of it and himself in the process.
