Why is 2k 160+ GB?
Why is avengers 190 GB?
Why is MW 150-250 GB?
These are just a few examples
I understand modern games have more data and textures, but f*** sake man. Most games shouldn’t really go over ~50 GB
this has become the standard for the industry now. S*** is f***ing annoying when you can barely hold a library because modern warfare is taking over your entire HDD
Xbox 360 had a 250 GB max! Now we have to by TB addons to our already expensive consoles to play our expensive games. S***s f***ing ridiculous.
Lazy Devs feel like they don’t need to compress their games because they assume we have the space
Do you see this becoming a controversy in the future or will people just ignore it and adapt?
Its a deal between console makers and game publishers, looks similar to Apple releasing macbooks without usb ports
Easy way to grab more money
They told us with next gen that game files would be smaller due to the SSD… all that meant is developers would use that saved space for extra content/GB to put into the game which just puts us back at sqaure one
I feel like they do it on purpose to limit your options, you have to choose their game over others if you want to play

How?
Sony and Microsoft don't make any money off people buying external SSD/HDD's.

I thought this as well too. You don’t want to delete a game because you’d have to spend a whole day redownloading the s***…. Then it grows in size and consumes your entire console so you play nothing else

Yep

I remember Seagate making official external drives for PS4
Otherwise theres another way to make more profit, thats always the motivator

I believe this as well
I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist but them pushing y'all to only have their game on your console so they not only take up space on your console but creates a bigger urgency to keep playing it

Luckily the best games usually have decent file sizes
Then there’s Nintendo: BOTW: 8gb

Microsoft does as the only SSD that works on Xbox (for next gen games) is a licensed seagate drive where they get royalties for every drive sold

THEY WANT YOU TO BE FORCED TO CHOOSE BROTHERS
ALL WHILE PAYING FOR PLAYSTATION PLUS REGARDLESS EVEN IF YOU PLAY NOTHING

Didn’t know that. Then they definitely make money off it

I really do think its this tbh

It is lol. Once you keep playing it enough then you suddenly like "I will platinum it" then by that time they dropping dlc, expansions or some incentive to play it more. its like organizing an arcade. If s*** is 1gb you could have it on your console and never have the urgency to play it because it isn't taking up space anyway

"I really wanna play that new game, but then I'll have to uninstall CoD and... F*** it I'll just play more CoD"

By monopolizing your hard drive space. There's a couple games that they feel the majority of their subscriber base WILL buy regardless, so they bloat it with 4k textures and uncompressed audio so you're forced to either buy more space, or rock out on 3 AAA games until you decide you've had enough
And they all sell proprietary HDDs, and have different capacity systems, they make bread off it.
It's f***ing annoying and why I rarely buy AAA games. Even on PC where you technically can have as much storage as you really want
Ark: Survival Evolved is f***ing 270+ GB. Why?
The only massive game that I can see why it's so big in size is Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Hate to say it. But the future of video games storage saving is on the fly texture streaming from a server somewhere
Will reduce storage space of the game. And you will stream super high quality textures into the game, and it will release them when not needed
That said, then if you play without internet you’re locked to low res textures
