You'll be fine without speaking French
Always good to have a little bit of the main language when you go somewhere that speaks something different than what you're fluent in/it's appreciated by people but yeah you can get by as a visitor in Montreal with just English

I can count in French and know some greetings
I can count in French and know some greetings
Greetings would probably be appreciated but I just brought that up as a general thing
English is a second or even third language for a lot of my family so I see it first hand how appreciated/how much of an ice breaker it can be when people that don't speak those languages even make the slightest attempt
But with Montreal specifically, you're fr good with just English.

What about rural Quebec or the other cities?

Haven't been out there but based off what I've heard I think knowing some French out there would be more important
You're gonna have a great time @op, Montreal is one of my favourite cities
Check out the Saint Laurent area, Piknic Electronik, and the Jazz Festival for fun stuff to do. And take advantage of the metro whenever possible
Understandable. Good thing is the things I listed are weeks-long events. Piknic Electronik happens every weekend from May - October, and the Jazz festival runs late June - early July so that should give you some flexibility
