  • Lil Wayne - got serious about Young Money after C3, cemented his legend status by raising a successful group of protégés

    • Drake - has repped OVO since forever, but everyone prefers the artists on it as writers instead of lead vocalists
    • Nicki Minaj - started PF Records pretty late into her career, no success there (yet?)
    • Tyga - started Last Kings, but the “that’s Honey Cocaine!” video is more popular than anything else that label has put out

    • Big Sean - Finally Famous (is there even anyone on this? Tone & Earlly Mac?)

    • Wale - Every Blue Moon is a cool name but idk anyone on it

Gucci Mane - 1017 pushed trap music forward

    • Waka Flocka Flame - Brick Squad Monopoly was huge a decade ago
    • Young Thug - YSL had success with Gunna & Lil Keed, as well as friends of the label such as Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Baby, and Lil Gotit
    • Migos - YRN didn’t really have anyone famous on it, but Rich The Kid & Skippa Da Flippa were close with them so they kinda count

    misc:
Kendrick Lamar - started PGLang very late into his career, but it hasn’t done anything for him (yet?)
    J. Cole - Dreamville has a lot of nice artists
Wiz Khalifa - started Taylor Gang, gave Juicy J a new career, helped Ty$ blow up
TI - Hustle Gang had signed Meek Mill & Travis Scott before they were famous too

Lil Baby - 4PF (who’s even in this? Rylo? i actually don’t know)
Playboi Carti - 00pium is basically a bunch of Carti clones who drop music when he doesn’t, and his fans love it

I think most labels today are just groupies who rap now. Either 1017 or CMG dropped everybody but like 3 people recently cause it just doesn't make sense.

It's really hard to have a imprint label in ths streaming era. People can sign directly to majors now more than ever.

i like the concept of rappers paying it forward and directly putting on younger generations

i side eye rappers who don’t have their own protégés, unless they’re in a group or something like A$AP or Rae Sremmurd or Clipse. but even then, Migos still had YRN.

I think a lot don't because they don't want the attention off of them. Drake for example could have put any rapper on in 2016-19 and they probably would have blew with a label push.

I think he will wait till he starts really falling off to sign rappers.

i wonder who Kendrick is gonna push when he gets serious about his label

  • I was gonna say King Von was OTF but he never actually signed

  • Cactus Jack has artists that are arguably better than Travis himself

    Snuck that in there
