Firstly, @FREE, they do have their place in the medium of video games, I don't hate them, I just find them overrated.

My beef with movie games, primarily the PlayStation exclusives I have beef with is that they are not fun, story takes precedence over gameplay and that most opt for "gritty" and "realistic". I don't play games to be immersed in reality. I play them after a long day of hating the real world and enjoy myself.

These games mechanics are also dumbed down for a casual audience to feel like they are good as gaming is becoming a more popular form of media. Typical formula for these games are, slow walk to location, hide behind wall, aim to shoot, slow run to next checkpoint, rinse and repeat process, coupled in with a few stealth missions, they all play out the same.

As gaming is getting more popular, it is also actively trying to shed its image of being seen as a child activitiy. This is evident with the heavy focus on cinematics, for the most part the cutscenes feel like they drag on forever and ever, and don't really add to the story, just something the writers add in to make the game feel "sophisticated", just get to the point. These games don't respect your time like Cow said, not into that.

Again to reiterate these games have their place like those cheap movie-tie-in games did, but when these are seen as the "definitive" type of games, it leads to a possible bad precedent that every game must meet these prerequisites to be a good game, when these games are very high budget and focused test the hell out of, and other companies will attempt to make these kind of games and fail miserably.
