Oldboy is far more popular and miles better. I would actually argue that Oldboy was the gate opener to South Korean cinema for many people. I know many that stuck there but there are also many that explored more. The fact that there are South Korean films celebrated pretty much every year helps a lot too. The Handmaiden is one of these I'd say.
