Crown >>>
I used to not like Crown. He did something special on that record.
I don’t want my music especially hip hop to sound like a broadway play I want it to knock like the genre was intended from the beginning
Freedom of expression was the intention
Can’t lie, I’m a huge Kendrick fan and the heart pt 5 hyped me so much… I was super disappointed by the album, I think I listened to it twice.
Need to re listen since some time has passed
It's my 3rd fave Kendrick album(4th if we include S80).
I feel the album is underrated because it has the least bangers or smash hits of any Kendrick album but it's a very strong concept album and deeply personal like you said.
It basically reminds me of 4:44 in many ways in terms of the self reflection and vulnerability but Kendrick took it a step further with the theming.
People can clown this album if they want but I'm still glad that Kendrick and Tyler push the envelope in mainstream rap more than just giving the usual bloated rap album with similar themes that serves more as a playlist filled with bangers than anything else.
Tbh the lack of hits wasn’t the problem , for me at least (my favorite Kendrick album is TPAB)

I always question what kind of music fan am I. I would never judge an album especially a year later after just two listens.
I personally don’t feel comfortable critiquing music especially after time has passed without doing my due diligence. So when I say I don’t like something it’s because I gave it a real chance.
Two listens just isn’t enough.

at least 7 incredible songs on here
It’s Kendrick’s worst album and probably won’t be as remembered as DAMN later down the line

Strange take, there are plenty of different sounds in hip hop

disagree I think in 10 years this will be seen as one of the best hiphop albums of the 2020's unless the quality of the landscape drastically improves

once I listened to the album while increasing my dopamine levels (skydiving, getting a nut off, etc.) it truly clicked. give it a try
Fantastic album. All my respects to @op for the post and for praising such a fine piece of work 💪

Oh wow thanks breh!
It’s Kendrick’s worst album and probably won’t be as remembered as DAMN later down the line
DAMN is certainly the worst album
It’s perfectly fine if yall kendrick fans like it but the world definitely doesn’t have the same opinion
No songs on the project made an impact
Family Ties a classic though, that’s a song people are still listening and will keep listening for a long time
Keep telling y’all to stop trusting your initial negative reactions and let s*** marinate
Y’all call great s*** mid all the time, tarnish the reception of s***, and then wanna retract the s*** 8 years later when no one cares
The internet is tainting our ability to be objective and rational and y’all fall for it everytime and the culture ends up suffering for it
