BRAVELike what critiques
he's not a good singer for starter. His voice is wack. Most of his hooks are not catchy at all. Beat selection is eh and he never struck me as an r&b artist that can truly be emotional. He might have emotional lyrics but nothing hits on the level of what he's praised to be. He also can't make phenomenal hit records and that's a staple of being a goat r&b artist.

My brother is nowhere to be found, BUT it turns out this nigga stole our cousins car to do a drive by.... i got word that him and his friends shot up like 6 cars AND this nigga totalled his cousins car and now my cousin is looking for him and im 100% sure he strapped too. :word:
So my brother for sure going back to jail and the worst part about all of this is that my mom doesn't know any of this yet and she got a rude awakening when she gets better.

Tbf you'd have a point if frank was a typical r&b act but these are mostly comparisons to expectations of typical r&b stars...and frank was never that (we put that on him cause he's a black guy with a slightly soulful voice and sound).
If anything frank is an "art" pop artist like lorde and lana, less r&b like chris and pnd

And it's more than just being "typical"
Aaliyah wasn't a typical r&b artist. Neither was amy winehouse. The same with someone like JMSN or even Badu. But I get your point.

A genre has two facets:
1. Traditional sound
2. EthosFrank Ocean may not have the traditional sound of pop (fast paced dance tunes with soul/funk sometimes rock influences with big sung hooks) but he 100% fits the ethos of pop:
a mix of different genres in a way where the primary genre is ambiguous (ie Hotline Bling not being exactly r&b or hip-hop)
