    From Billboard:

Under the new rules, which will be implemented at a start date to be announced, all albums bundled with either merchandise or concert tickets must be promoted as an à la carte add-on to those purchases in order to be counted on the charts (i.e. a separate item added to a shopping cart on its own). Those included as part of a baked-in, single-price option (along with the merchandise or ticket), with the album cost undisclosed to the consumer, will no longer be counted. It is Billboard’s belief that the resulting charts will more accurately reflect consumer choice.

In addition, Billboard will no longer allow sales of physical albums or singles that are bundled with digital downloads to be reported as digital sales, thereby eliminating the practice of “spontaneous” non-manufactured items being used to influence first-week chart rankings. Only when the physical item -- ostensibly what the consumer is buying -- is shipped, will it be counted in Billboard’s official tallies.

The practice of selling vinyl, CDs and other physical releases that won’t be manufactured and shipped to consumers for weeks or months -- while offering a digital download that can be redeemed instantly -- has become widespread as of late, with artists including Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and 6ix9ine all recently using the tactic to boost their chart positions. The latest rule changes will render that tactic ineffectual.

i genuinely don't get how that weeknd song only debuts at #6 considering the last 2 years he has just had

guess it just shows he's not as big as social media makes out

The song he dropped was ass it sounds like some s*** you would hear at forever 21/H&M. People have heard blinding lights a million times so this new single sounds more of the same. Feels like he's driving that 80s sound into the dirt.

I don't get why he's releasing another album so soon. I think he's making a big mistake honestly.

No one said debuting at #6 was trash lol it's just weird that an artist like the weeknd who's been on fire unable to debut at #1 or at least top 3. just says a lot about how big the weeknd actually is

Spotify so playlisted hard to know if it’s a shift in Rap being the main genre or just payola

Interesting though cause the other week was the first time in 2 years that there hasn’t been a rap song in billboards top 10

I guess no big rap singles are out rn but if you look at this same month in the last 4 years the top 10 on Spotify was almost all rap

Yea I feel like in the past it hasn’t even mattered whether big rap artists have singles out cause it felt like every other week a minor rap artist had a hit
That doesn’t seem to happen at the moment at least not breaking into the top 10-20

I think it's because streaming is less focused rn but pop radio is still holding a lot of the top song afloat

yea it’s wild to me that streaming still seems down compared to pre pandemic

Like streaming services are still growing too what about the pandemic at this stage is even stopping people streaming music

It was a matter of time. Trap has been stale and big rap albums have no hits now.

And I wouldn't call Lil Nas Hip Hop lol, I like him but dude is pretty much pop. And which are the others? Cause Doja pop too.
