Iām very confused here are people actually insinuating that Blinding Lights didnāt boost Abelās career to a new high? It gave him the Super Bowl ffs
to be fair The Weeknd prob did grow in Latin countries over the last few years due to much more collabs with latin artists, which is where I'd bet most of those numbers are from. On the top 10 vevo artists list 5/10 artists are Latin. Drake isn't even on there, nor is Morgan Wallen, Olivia etc. Latin countries are a cheat code for views/stream numbers but awful for the artist which makes them all try go to america
I just don't think he's a top 5 artist in the US anymore. Drake, Kendrick, Taylor Swift, Adele, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Olivia Rodrigo are all more popular. Him trying to sell out stadiums in the US is actual insanity & I'm willing to bet it'll be a massive failure
He has a higher chance selling out stadiums in the US than doing so in Europe imo. I donāt know what his team was thinking with this decision, he is no proven tour act yet.

Do you actually think the Super Bowl is a good indicator? in the last few years it's literally just been artists far past their peak lol
Dr Dre/Snoop/Eminem next year,
Shakira & J Lo in 2020
Maroon 5 in 2019
Timberlake in 2018
Lady Gaga in 2017
Coldplay in 2016
seriously all of those artists had their peaks about 10 years before headlining lol

It makes sense because Trilogy came out in 2011 and I just looked it up and he did the 2021 Superbowl so that logic lines up
It set a billboard record because of its longevity, it spent over a year in the top 10, the previous record was 39 weeks (Circles by Post), while Blinding Lights spent 57 weeks. It also spent 43 weeks in the top 5, and 90 weeks in the top 100.
For comparison, Old Town Road is the longest running number one, it spent 19 weeks at number one, but only 23 weeks in the top 5. Not sure how long it was in the top 10, but it was less than 31 weeks for sure (thatās the lowest in the top 10), and less than 60 weeks in the top 100 (again thatās where the top 10 stops).
It was carried pretty hard by radio to be fair. 3.8b audience compared to The Box which had under 2b
whilst on streaming it did 821m. Whilst The Box was #1 with 1.3b. BL was the 4th most streamed song in 2020 in US
It's literally just a chart man thats unbiased math and people have always made those for him. There's whole youtube videos about his chart performance. That's not a personal attack get a grip
What do you mean it literally is itās weird

Absolutely it is, everyone else you named were legacy acts by that point.
Shakira was around for 20+ years
Maroon 5 for 17
JT for 21
Lady Gaga was the only surprising one because she was also only in for 9 years. Meanwhile Abel was coming fresh off of the biggest year heās had in his career. Completely separate from other halftime performers.

yeah thats my point, it's for has beens. Not for people at the peak of their career.
still not seen anything to indicate that The Weeknd grew a lot from Blinding Lights.
Starboy broke the streaming record, AH didn't, why do you think that is?

Well If youāre going back to small stats like that, AH broke the AM record for highest amount of presaves for an album in AM history until I think Taylor broke it again. What song do you think could have possibly helped that?

Where you getting 820 million from? Itās the second most streamed on Spotify of all time with 2.6 billion streams

my bad I shoulda explicily said I was talking US only
musicbusinessworldwide.com/files/2021/01/MRC_Billboard_YEAR_END_2020_US-Final.pdf has all the info on 2020 US stats

How is # of first week streams a small stat? it's literally the biggest stat for seeing how popular an artist is. It's not comparable to presaves at all considering many factors come into # of presaves like how long the rollout is (After Hours rollout was super long etc)
Drake didn't even have CLB open for presaves, lots of artists don't. You're going to be in for a shock when this new album comes out

Did you just really try to say that's a small stat and then bring up presaves in the same post. Can't be serious
I'm interested to see how post malone and the weeknd do with their next albums tbh.
if they both do "aight" or worse there might be a case for a big hit in the streaming era oversaturating an artist.
circles and blinding lights had comparable success but they both seem kinda in the rear view culturally rn but who knows
Kodak would be top 10 without christmas tracks
https://twitter.com/chartessentials/status/1469884368780881920the chart in early january gonna be crazy when all these christmas songs free fall
Durk and Morgan should have been here. Who drops a banger in the middle of Christmas? lol
I'm not the biggest Encanto fan, thought it was just ok, but some of the songs were pretty catchy.
