oh yeah this is def a flop, don't get me wrong, one of the biggest flops of the year from a big artist
but it's more so a flop because of how badly she did in streaming compared to her previous album more so than it is because of a fall in pure sales from the bundle rules
That kind of rules her out as a super star though if she needs bundles and all that extra stuff just to put up decent numbers
I canât help but feel like pop music is all but smoke + mirrors & it feels like labels are pulling strings to make pop acts seem bigger than they actually are
Streaming has exposed a lot of acts being nothing but teen sensations with label backing + funding

I think it might have a lot to do with the fact that music is no longer really a monoculture as streaming has risen and radio has fallen, "the summer smash" kinda feels like a thing of the past, there's no one big superstar anymore, people are able to fall into their niches without having an artist forced onto them (play-listing exists of course though). That's why I find it hard to see charts as an objective metric of one's current popularity.
but again, Ari still has the highest first week in streaming for thank u next which was just last year, so her fame isn't really an "illusion" this album itself was just a massive flop. Regardless pure sales (such as bundles) imo show more so that an artist has a strong core fanbase than it does show how popular an artist is among the GP, streaming shows that much more so, of which Ari did really poorly this time and pure sales have never been her strong suite regardless.

I lowkey feel as if it has more to do with the rise of streaming
Mainstream music is no longer dictated by just radio play & pure sales anymore, hip hop was the most pirated genre during the mids 2000s and now
Ironically thatâs when all the pop records & artists were dominating because they had the radio play & pure sales to propel their albums all over the charts
If you think about it fans of pop music always bought singles, albums etc & now theyâre transitioning to streaming which is hurting artists that originally depended on crazy teenage girls that use their parents money to buy every radio single
I think this is going to happen to every major pop artist unless they start putting out some high quality music
Hey guys! over the course of the past couple weeks I created this really cool website that actually tracks total streams and streaming revenue of albums during the first week. Will be announcing more publicly later today. Here's the website if you want to take a first look: www.musicplaceexchange.com

YouTube streams aren't gonna get it very far though w the rules about having to be domestic only and logged in plus the 375 for 1 sale
im sure the label will put a buck into it though they basically wrote a blank check for that video
