Yeah we’ve never seen something that seems so planned from the jump actually take off. In that sense it spits in the face of what we thought about committee type planning in music actually working

But I don’t doubt that luck is a big part of this, let’s see if it can be replicated

    yea very true

if the guy's response single also takes off this was perfectly executed

lol I tried to write a whole thread on why this song succeeded
looked at Spotify playlisting numbers, tiktok numbers, apple numbers, instagram etc

    I cant explain it

playlisting is only just topping 100m on Spotify which is still significantly lower than most major artist singles - Toosie was 150m for days during its first week, Biebers single last week was over 100m multiple days etc

the song is really big on TikTok but theres not a huge number of videos being released to it - around 400k so far. Savage by Megan Thee Stallion was higher at the same point

the Disney show isn't particularly popular either

dont get me wrong obviously the song is clicking with people and theres a lot of organic success

but I just cant see what explanation there is for this song not just being around 3.5-4m streams a day (which is still hugely successful). I dont see it engaging hugely on other platforms than tiktok, its her debut single, the playlisting isn't insane, etc. it doesnt feel like a moment thats twice as big as something like WAP

    I just dont get it

Not hard to understand artists from singing shows get people to check out their debut singles

Ari, Miley, Demi, Jonas Bros all had massive debut hits

Except that the singing show ended like a year ago, her single from the soundtrack only hit #90 and the singing show only got 2m viewers lol

    It actually is

How many Nick/Disney channel child actors pursued a career in the music business & failed trying ?

Ari, Miley & the Jonas brother are the only anomalies

Y’all forget Zendaya, Bella Thorne, Selena Gomez, Debby Ryan, Vanessa Hudges, Mitchel Musso, Corbin, Victoria Justice among so many others were being pushed to be singers but all never saw or reached the success of Miley Cyrus or Ariana Grande

Miley in her prime got a way bigger push than Olivia Rodrigo too, she had The Climb, a hit TV show AND her own damn movie lol

The whole “ child actor/Disney stimulus “ narrative isn’t really relevant

Also idk if anyone has pointed this out but the Kid Laroi’s father is apparently filthy rich with some industry connections

I think he worked with Nelly, Mariah & other superstars

    Selena is successful

Idek half of those people but streaming made music more accessible to the Disney audience so this was bound to happen

Disney has had more failures than successes though, so the whole narrative of her success coming from an ok Disney show doesn’t explain her success

And stop, Selena is nowhere near being a star in the music industry

Well the exposure helps plus the song is good

Even Zendaya debut single hit top 40 and it was trash

Selena sold 20m records you saying she flopped?

Never called her a flop but she’s nowhere near being a super star or on the same level as Miley or Ari
