No one is gonna be doing these numbers anymore until billboard fixes how streaming contributes to the chart

Nothing Billboard changed would've affected Scorpion's numbers

I agree which is why below I said Drake is the only current artist in music who is able to do these numbers without the use of bundling

    Should’ve clarified that originally 🙂

Spotify gave out refunds for that paid promotion mess

He'll never get those numbers again lol

Also you don’t just get these numbers through the use of “bundling” these are numbers beyond what 99% of artists are capable of reaching, even through bundling, so it’s strange to downplay these numbers lol

You also have to have an extremely dedicated fanbase of which Taylor has had for 10 years+ now

Giant album releases are an opportunity for streaming services to flex. Every time an artist or an album breaks a record Spotify or Apple Music get a bunch of free publiciity as well as being able to show the growth of their service. They want the new single day or week streaming record to be beaten by as much as possible so the business model looks healthier than ever.

Did you make this same argument when we said The Scotts isn't a legit #1?

Lol but the scotts wasn't the most streamed song. It got to #1 strictly of the merch bundle

Safe did a thread about it

If you talking about the Billboard manipulation thread there wasn't a source in there about that campaign being paid for.

Spotify had a personal financial stake in Drake breaking their record by as much as possible

What "financial stake" they're promoting music they pay royalties per play for free

    Make it make sense

Spotify had just transitioned from a private to a public company three months before Scorpion's release. Records being broken on the platform signify to stockholders that the business model is healthy, it's growing, and it's bigger than ever. And Drake being the king of streaming is the obvious candidate to break those records. Then specifically when you look at Drake who performs really well on Apple Music, you see how important it is for Spotify that Scorpion gets as many streams as possible on their platform. Getting beat by their biggest competitor during the biggest ablum of the year is not a good look.

Drake breaking records = stock price goes up
