Around 20k but he’ll probably try to sell me an auxiliary surgery with it for another 7k. So like 30k total

What kind of surgery? Is it just an implant or is it one where they break your jaw?

I have a similar condition op i know it can get you down sometimes but its a lot of money. Half of me likes having a malformation as a judgement of peoples characters. Ofc the other half is insecure about it but surgery is too expensive, too invasive for me and takes too long to recover.

Frankly i would say handle all cheaper aspects first, eg workout, facial hair if possible. Try a therapist too. Then reconsider.

If youre this insecure now, you potentially could still be insecure about it even post surgery.

That’s insane bro. That’s a down payment on a damn house. Or completing paying off a brand new car.

    How old are you?

    25

It’s double jaw surgery (BSSO). My condition is not bad. Hell you can even say my jaw is relatively good. But in absolute terms, the lower part is still recessed. Its not causing any functional issues atm but might exacterbate sleep apnea down the line. I’m a research freak it’s basucally my job & ppl underestimate the significance of proper facial development & his necessary orthodontic & maxifacisl work is. Like it literally affects soo many physiological functions it’s crazy & 90% of ppl need some kind of work done they just don’t know it.

Can’t front tho, am only doing it for superficial purposes. Ever since I was commissioned by this professor/surgeon to help out with this research, and it’s been downhill from there. I’m happy with my looks otherwise, but this jaw thing is pestering the fuk out of me.

How could you know he should get the surgery without seeing a picture of him first. Jaw surgery takes months to recover, it can be agonizing and traumatic.

The only person I would recommend getting jaw surgery would be someone who is really ugly or deformed enough to where it is diminishing their quality of life.

Op said he does fine on tinder so he's probably not deformed or ugly.

As for my advice @op you should get the surgery if it's what you really want but not if you are just doing it to fill some void that has less to do with your looks and more to do with a deep insecurity that will just resurface and continue to fester long after your jaw has healed.

I agree 100%. As far as the void filling, I can’t answer that with full certainty but if that was the case it should have manifested in some other form of obsession prior. It’s just this stupid thing that’s been pissing me the fuk off

just spend 2k on fillers first and see if it makes that much of a difference to spend 30k and basically give 5 months of your life away to a damn surgery..

    What kind of physiological functions?

Anything that cant be mitigated by healthy exercising, eating and sleeping?

please take some time to work on/read something other than plastic surgery forums and come back to it

not trying to tell you what the correct decision is, but it sounds like youve gotten a little too obsessed with a very niche issue (you said yourself that you more or less look fine jaw wise).

gain some more perspective before you dive headfirst into potentially risky/costly surgery

Fillers can’t fix mandibular retroganthia. I know bsso is 2far but honestly camouflaging the issue won’t fix the mental problem. Thing is my case is waaaaaay more conservative as far as movements relative to the average case. Risk is still there ofc but at this very moment i believe the benefits outweigh it. Might change down the line tho even though I doubt it

It’s not just sleep apnea. Your entire spine is literally connected to the space of your airways & bodily posture. S*** like tight pelvic muscles, rounded shoulders, neck cramps etc are all by products. There’s a whole bunch of hit if I wanna address it extensively. Granted none of those is my concern but it’s noteworthy

Do you have any links to studies?

Anyway man you can do whatever you want, we’ve given our opinion/advice based on the info youve given but at the end of the day its your life.

You’re insane. You’re making things up to try and justify it. It would be one thing if it was a severe deformity or something like that...

Where did this whole idea come from? You say you work with this professor/surgeon? Is this who would be performing surgery? Sure as s*** sounds like to me that he put this in your head that you should get it and now it has manifested into this big deal. He just wants to make a buck. If it’s not the same person, then just forget that part.

I don’t know a single person that has had superficial jaw surgery and I’ve never met anyone that has any of these issues due to their jaw. Like I said, this is just you looking into any reason to justify getting it. And the things you’re using to justify are extremes.

Are you a millionaire? Or you got a few hundred thousand in the bank to spare? How are you paying for it?

Do you really wanna be known as the guy who had to get plastic surgery to make his jaw look more manly? I know I sure as s*** wouldn’t.

You need to talk to a therapist.

I mean I really don’t care as far as rep goes I don’t really think am lacking much as far as societal standards go am doing this 100% for me anyways.

& no it’s not the same doc. The guy who commissioned me would squeeze a cool $100k for the same damn procedure & am not balling like that
