Loved this project. It was the perfect interlude in his career after starboy. He got back to a darker sound and it was impossible to predict what he would do next.
I still get goosebumps as soon as I hear the piano and “We found each otherrr…”
What has stuck with you from this project?
Absolute perfection. One of the best EPs ever
Absolute perfection. One of the best EPs ever
It was one of his best pieces of work in a long time and him showing that he still knows what the Day 1 fans want .
It has some of my favourite Weeknd tracks. Particularly Call Out My Name, Try Me, and Privilege.
;
But not only, cause the project is solid start to finish.
• "Call Out My Name", a very emotional track. In the words of Lorde, (when she was talking about her Melodrama songs), Abel writing this track must have been like a heart surgery. And it's so touching, one of the most touching songs I've heard.
• "Try Me", I've been like a broken record regularly expressing how much I love this track, major reason cause to me this is the kind of songs like Enemy, Trust Issues, songs that don't rake streams, but instead have longevity, evergreen. And most importanly cause to me this song is the kind of song I see the pen of the evolved songwriting of 2011 Weeknd produce, if he opted to focus 100% in artistic growth, and keeping the mystique persona, say like Frank, Jai Paul, banksy, maybe Prince, etc. He chose the pop lane, it does good to the bank, and some pop tracks are quite good. So I've made my peace with that.
• "Wasted Times" a pretty good tune, and I emphasize that. A love letter to the UK garage genre, a sunny, feel-good pop track which I've replayed countless times! The vocals are gorgeous, the playful teasing and the cherry on top "you were equestrian so ride it like a champion", and the production? Stellar! Want more pop tracks as-good-or-better!
• "I Was Never There" with the crispy production, emotionap content and the iconic outro/second half. If you're sad, beware, it will f*** you up.
• "Hurt You" another good pop song, a bit less as sunny than "Wasted Times", but really good nonetheless. The song you play for a late drive, or afternoon too, as the sun is crimson red in the horizon, probably with a dozen of minutes or two left before saying adios.
And an infectuous production, coupled with his smooth-ass cry "I don't wanna hurt youuuu... uu-uuhhh"
A seriously underrated track, a deep cut, a solid one.
• "Privilege" another intense, touching song, another case of heart surgery writing/listening experience. Beautiful track all round.
Here's a treat, a fan edit I made many moons ago, which elevates the track from 9/10 to 9.5/10, my gift to you XO airheads of ktt2 😘 (remove the space from the link to make it work)

Why is My Dear Melancholy so short?
,
“The reason why it was so short is like, I think I just had nothing else to say on this,” the Canadian singer told Esquire. “It was just like this cathartic piece of art. And yeah, it was short, because that’s all I had to say on this situation.”
I only wish he gave it more time, to make it full length LP worth of material, probably 10-14 tracks. If he was given more time, and if he worked a bit more one the songs, I believe it could have been the album to top Kiss Land.
An absolute classic project. Zero misses on that EP. Personal favorite of mine.
