look at some of the most iconic rap songs from that era, love sosa peaked at #56, BMF peaked at #60 and hard in the paint didn't even chart. right before streaming started to have impact, digital sales were on the decline and radio was most dominant.

Yeah I agree that it was probably harder for rappers to get hits then but that doesn't make those songs hits
using chart positions as the basis for a song being a hit is disingenuous because radio is specifically what determines you charting in 2021
go by units sold (plat in 1 year, 2x plat in 5 years is a hit)
