I don't believe most of you even really listen to Kendrick to be making some of these statements itt. But that's okay.

  • Absolutely awful nas takes in here

  • Kendrick is the best of his era but when you compare with other greats of other eras thats where the levels are shown. For example, performing live/delivery? Snoop, Pac, Ye etc... wash him. Story telling? BIG washes(and a few more). Lyricism? Nas washes.

There's a 2020's tax on current rap greats cause we are in the worst rap era ever and have been for the last 10 years or so

  • Aftermathbws_

Kendrick is massively overrated in the grand scheme of things, and of course he’s not on Nas level, but he’s probably the best artist of this last generation and will probably be in the top 10-20 discussion when all is said and done

This feels like a post from 2011

    @BlackSlug @Mitchell

DOOM, Black Thought, Andre 3,000, Mos Def, Rakim, Raekwon, Ghostface, GZA, KRS, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, Jay Electronica, Roc Marci, Mach-Hommy, Rome Streetz, Conway The Machine, Big L, Lupe, Aesop Rock, Pharoahe Monch, Prodigy, Planet Asia, Guru, Scarface, Wayne, Pun, Method Man, Royce da 5'9"

I f*** with a lot of this list but idk if some of these are really better than Kendrick, they just have different styles.

  • Ron Mexico

I still think those are 2 different ideas

It's also what separated Kendrick from Nas, imo. You had lived experiences and you have learned experiences. The lived experiences will more likely than not be more intriguing than learned experiences

I mean was Nas a major factor as far as hustlers from that time in Qb? No.. that doesn’t mean he didn’t have any lived experiences.

On top of that he blew up young, and was still in his community for better or for worse as he ascended.

Kendrick’s great but he’s spawned a bunch of derivative artists that all try to mirror his pen while pretending they’re unique (Doechii).

It’s unfortunately tainted the view of Kendrick’s lyricism a little

some of these yes but others r downright ridiculous and only here cuz of the dusthead status and s*** lol

how is doechii derivative of kendrick of all people she dont even go conscious

  • Kendrick has this amazing ability to use language in a way that creates entirely new terms and phrases. For example “light pack” just wasn’t a thing that was said before Like That but everyone immediately latched onto it and understood the meaning.

Unfortunately I think he tries to do this too often and too many of his lyrics don’t actually make any sense but people just let it rock. Like no one is still able to govern a definitive answer for what “my left stroke just went viral” means. I don’t think this is a problem for most of his core fanbase though. I think they actually like this ambiguity because they get to have theories about what he meant.

What I’m saying is I think Nas is a better pure lyricist cause Kendrick’s biggest strength oftentimes becomes his biggest weakness

  • AvenueJones

That’s why I laugh at these fake hood niggas that claim Kendrick makes music for “suburbans”. If you from the environments Kendrick is from and you stayed out the way it’s no way you can’t relate to bro’s story

Never saw this post until now but facts!’

ye and snoop washing is laughable

Live performance wise? You gotta be kidding me if you think Kendrick is a better performer than either. S*** I think Snoop is a better performer to this day at age 60! lol Don't have to touch on Ye--Kendrick never touching prime 2011 Kanye.

  • Why does this thread have 10 pages? Are there seriously people who have listened to Nas and STILL disagree?

oh i thought u meant as rappers, as performers idk if snoop after 1999 is capable of doing a performance like euphoria at the pop out

Na as rappers kendrick got it, even though prime Snoop might give him a hell of a battle. But performance wise I just feel like Snoop is one of the best ever. You understand every word he says clearly and it sounds almost exactly like the studio version.

  • Nas wrote purple off the lost tapes, nobody touching that boy so this ain't saying all that much

Doechii is definitely influenced by Kendrick, but I don't see how that taints Kendrick at all
