also wtf is with pitchfork’s hate boner for nas since nasir lmao
Even when they gave LIG BNM they didn't include it in their year end list.
Why do y’all even give pitchfork the time of day
It’s been f*** them tbh
I guess it’s just amusing how off some of their scores are lol, that’s about it
That writer said EPMD and Eminem had more standout lines on the album than Nas
the ignorance
Called Nas' rhymes "clumsy"
Not read the review but it gives me ‘I dont like rap but i listen to Eminem’ energy
I liked this more than Kings disease one which was only aite imo.
Death row east and nobody some real standouts. Maybe that's kinda basic lol idk but they hit for me first time out. Tbh I think you could cut a few mins off this album easily. But nas just sounds a lot smoother on it than KD1, Nasir and hit boy improved a lot on the boards too.
I kinda feel like sometimes nas does too much of this luxuriating in his own success and memories stuff. Like to me, the peak of a lot of that was life is good and to see him relitigate a lot of it 3 albums later doesn't carry the same weight to me as a listener. But also guy has been in the game for decades so it's understandable that not every song is gonna have a fresh new perspective or subject matter.

Rightly or wrongly it's cos of the kelis domestic abuse allegations
It's cool tho, there's no critically acclaimed album nowadays without label backing/funding so we expected it. Critical success is more about connects and marketing these days. It is what it is.
I think some artists pay critics
I think some artists pay critics
Their labels definitely do
Nas is independent now, plus in his words never sucked up to those publications like other artists, so no chance lol

ah I see, i didn’t even think of that
yea I do remember p4k being very critical of nas not responding to the allegations in their nasir review

Not only P4k.
But he addressed everything shortly later with a very lengthy 3 part IG post, which he never does.. didn't matter to some of those critics, they still complained about it when they reviewed KD1.
B****fork
AOTY
Not only P4k.

ah yeah I do remember that, very unusual to see nas post a lengthy rant like that

I mean ever since his debut a big part of Nas' appeal has been reminiscing on stuff. He has been blessed with the ability to capture the essence of life through it.
And of course P4K gives the album a 6.1. Convinced those clowns just don't like Nas more than anything. F***in nerds saying King's Disease II should be rated the same as Nasir
P4K gave King's Disease I a 6.3...already off to a rough start. Then they give King's Disease II, an album that is far and away much better than KDI, a 6.1. Ya can't make this up.

And the review reads almost like a 0.0
The writer basically had nothing positive to say
ah I see, i didn’t even think of that
yea I do remember p4k being very critical of nas not responding to the allegations in their nasir review
i think that was a fair enough criticism tbh. it certainly seems conspicuous in its absence on nasir.
i guess the question is though...is addressing it enough, even? if these allegations are true (and tbh i think it's clear there is never going to be any sort of formal threshing out of these issues) then does it matter? at that point, should you even be giving oxygen to the releases of somebody you clearly think is culpable for a decidedly bad thing? i don't know the answer to any of this ofc, i'm just broadly speculating.
i think one thing that irks me about p4k in particular is that they will never let go of kanye's trump stuff or kelis' allegations (tbh i understand the latter being more of a sticking point than the former) but will regularly showcase and positively review azealia banks, doja cat etc.
