The next person quoting Drake lyrics gets a report from me deadass
In today’s “Ryen Russillo Podcast,” (~37 minute mark) with Bill Simmons, they talk about what they were hearing on Doc’s firing. Russillo & BS both heard Ballmer went ballistic after the Clippers meltdown against the Nuggets and wanted to get rid of everyone (coaches & players included). He was talked out of it after a week, but then, he decided to fire him over the Front Office’s wishes because he lost faith in everyone telling him what he should do for these reasons:
According to them, Ballmer grew tired of spending all this money on a high-priced coaching staff that wasn’t listening to the high-priced a***ytics staff to play Zubac over Harrell, specifically. Plus, there was the whole 3-1 blown lead.
The loss of trust in the Front Office, though, was interesting, due to the connection to Michael Porter, Jr. playing well against them in the Nuggets series. If you recall, in the 2018 draft, the Clippers had the 12th & 13th picks they ended up with SGA (trade w/CHA for Miles Bridges) & Jerome Robinson—both who are no longer with the team.
Meanwhile, MPJ was taken with the 14th pick by the very team that just knocked them out of the playoffs. Ballmer was very familiar with him, being from Seattle, and wanted the team to draft him. Apparently, the Front Office said he was undraftable, as did many FO’s at the time, according to Russillo. That didn’t seem to matter to Ballmer, however, now that he seems to be a young star on the rise.
And so, to watch him playing well against his team, who has given up their first round picks for the next 8 years and has no young stars waiting in the wings in case Kawhi & PG leave after next season, that was just too much. And, so, he took the reins and decided he was going to do what he wanted to do: Fire Doc. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if there aren’t more roster changes. Sounds like he is still really angry.

Coaching staff and a***ytics staff need to be on the same page. It's why the Warriors worked so well, can't believe teams aren't picking up on that

Mpj isn’t that great lmao

I thought this was common sense for every team but I guess not lol
Lol this is true but anything can happen. The wins still have to be earned and y’all have all of our respect regardless of who’s out there on the floor

Mpj isn’t that great lmao
He's better than every player on the Clippers not named Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and both of those dudes may not be with the team past next year. His anger is definitely justified
Mpj isn’t that great lmao
I took from it that should Kawhi and/or George leave next summer then they have no future whatsoever. With MPJ they could at least look towards him as a foundation piece and a safety net.
If Kawhi stayed we would be looking at a Raps vs Lakers finals the next 3 seasons but nah hes a b****
