yeah that championship was super compelling.

The best won the whole thing. The BB tournament has become randomness.

is it randomness or parity
is it randomness or parity
Randomness. You have three schools making their first F4 ever.
Randomness. You have three schools making their first F4 ever.
There are a lot of reasons for this though, none of which have to do with randomness
-There hasn't been a dominant team all college basketball season like there was with football because the talent is no longer as concentrated. Unlike in football where Georgia Michigan and Ohio State were the clear cut 3 best teams in the country from week 1 until the end of the season, there were a ton of "good not great" CBB teams, either blue bloods having down years or good teams just having a fatal flaw that eventually did them in
-Individual talent (or the talent of 2-3 guys) can carry a basketball team much further than it can a football team. You don't even need one side of the football's worth of competent players to make a run in March Madness, most of these teams are doing it with a solid rotation of 8-9 guys. It's so much easier to be competitive with the big dogs when you don't need as many players in general, let alone good players, to do it
-NIL and transfer portal has and will continue to have a much bigger effect on basketball than it will on football for the reason listed immediately above - individual player impact. Benchwarmers at blue bloods can go become impact players on mid major teams. Elite mid major players can transfer to a P6 school to put them over the top. In college football this year, USC got Caleb Williams and Jordan Addison and lost 3 games. Alabama got Jahmyr Gibbs and didn't make the playoff. Meanwhile in CBB, Creighton got Baylor Scheierman and fell a point short of the final four. Miami got Nijel Pack and actually made the final four. UConn got Tristen Newton and made the final four. The landscape of it all creates an environment of lasting parity in college basketball, which is why I can't attribute it to randomness because I genuinely think it's the new norm (and I'm entirely on board with it.)

We’ve had transfers impact basketball teams long before NIL. Larry Johnson was a JUCO transfer and became the Naismith winner in 91. Kevin Kruger was a grad transfer that led UNLV to a S16.
The rule of not having to wait a year has transformed and triggered the impact of transfers.
It’s still randomness. Last year we literally had two blue bloods in the Final and the top NCAA rivalry as a F4 matchup. In terms of basketball this year we had 3 traditional blue bloods in the top 8 of the 64. That’s blue bloods being down.
delusional thread title lol, and that's from someone who actually has not had the most interest in this years CBB tourney

We’re the complete opposite. I’m less casual than most and this entire year had been awful.
