Patents? Majority of patents are owned by Google, Apple, Microsoft, im not familiar with IBM game in that field but if they want to go in a certain market other companies might fight them by suing them. Something like that... trying to help.

Aren't those the computer guys they probably had to make smaller computers and lack of money is always a constraint so jot that down maybe the R&D wasn't going well either who even knows IBM anymore what happened to IBM? They fell off

Like Microsoft they went deeper in IT. I bet they are just buying small startup companies that do some high level IT AI s***. They just couldnt keep up with apple and google and had to find something for themselves.
