I’m really not surprised Hip-Hop has fallen off the way that it is.
It’s been over saturated by the different genres. Around long enough where very few things have sounded original and inspired.
Streaming has killed the money made for artists and with that, the inspiration and motivation to craft the artistry. The chase for trends and viral has affected things massively too. Not to mention AI….
This doesn’t surprise me Ye’s fall-off has coincided with this. He hasn’t exactly been the top-tier musically the last couple efforts, but their isn’t an Individual Artist in rap that has been so synonymous with trend, influence, musical outputs, and lasting appeal to the discography than Kanye. Even when his music wasn’t the most relevant to the younger crowds in the late 10’s.. he was your favorite artists FAVORITE artist. And clearly the waves he made caught influence instantly.
We need his revival and return from the ether he put himself in. Hip-Hop needs it. I personally think Drake can lift him back the way Ye did for HOV pre-WTT. And I hope that’s the end-all of everything they’ve been associations themselves with since ‘18.
Drake is still top dog in the current industry but we’re all feeling his relevance decline now. Travis one of the last ones out currently with real buzz but it’s controversial since Astroworld. Future and Thug been trying to kick out efforts above mid. Cole and Kendrick are reaching their gassed eras, Keem not buzzing the way we’d hope. Same for Tyler and ASAP although they still bring some artisty to the table. Baby, Durk, 21, and Gunna really out here recycled to death. Nicki puts out solid but doesn’t grab peoples radar anymore. NAS of all people doing his best but it’s not enough to be relevant beyond Dust (which is so sad BC I’m f***ing w/ it so heavy). HOV AND Wayne been gone. Chance and Cardi B went even faster. And Freddie Gibbs, JID, and Denzel Curry are the last real rappers standing out here but not grabbing the youth as much as we need. XXX and Juice Wrld really didn’t get enough time to inspire the next era and we just watched their music get oversaturated by money grabbers.
Back to KANYE MF WEST
We need him back. He’s not supposed to be out here nearing the 50’s carrying the culture of Hip-Hop, but no one took the reigns inspiring the influence and culture. And he’s been so sorely missed. He’s still your favorite artists FAVORITE ARTIST. Even after his mistakes and fall-off. As much as Drake been love/hate, I pray the plan has been those two asserting themselves as the top. Even after all this time. It’s undeniable how much Kanye is beloved by all in the music industry genre he carved out for us since he came in the game.
Miss you Ye, please guys keep this thread going 🙏

This is facts but I do think the issue with guys like Kendrick, Keem and Tyler taking over is that they don’t reach the same audiences that Drake, Travis and Thug do and vice versa. Kanye reached everyone for the most part except for maybe women (Drake and Cole seem to be able to hit this on the nose)
But it all boiled down to Ye being all of these guys reference point and because of that, everything they put out tried to meet the standard the first 5 albums did but now we don’t see that same effort unfortunately and I hate to say it but Drake being the main standard is the issue for this.
Also Drake will 100% not do the WTT thing and rightfully so because of Kanye’s actions towards him. Nothing would get done cause of Kanye’s ego which ultimately destroyed him being at the stop still.
Edit: Kanye probably stopped reaching women after Taylor Swift/MBDTF days.
I think we are in lowest level hiphop has ever been, we almost reached that bottom between 2008-2012 when electro took over rap, all artists wanted to do the same David Guetta s***, We got some masterpieces at that time though, but globally it was painfull to listen to radio.
2013 was an important year because it marks a big change in hiphop, and a new generation started to emerge (sons of 808s) (Travis), some became big stars (Kendrick). Which lead to probably one of best hiphop years in 2016 (seriously the number of classics/masterpieces that year still amaze me).
So I predict better days will come soon, it cannot be worst, everybody sound the same nowsaday and people will get bored sooner or later. And some new artists will emerge to be leader of the new generation

I think that’s why we’ve gotten this discourse about hip hop not having a #1 even from casual fans. I think within the next 2 years there will be a shift but it has to be started by someone already at the top
Honestly I don’t want it anymore because it comes bullshit, delays, and disappointment!
Bumping thread bc Utopia has the Yeezy fingerprints and sparks me to say I’m seeing the long term vision these guys had way back when they worked on Yeezus together

It's kinda wild tbh, I was just thinking about this the other day
