Nelly's first two albums were the biggest selling records not made by Eminem in the rap game at the time

Then he fell off right after

Drake has been consistent since 2009 & sells the most records in hip hop despite being the most pirated

Nelly might be a "you had to be there" typa artist to really enjoy him. I grew up on dude's music, but a lot of people here were being born at the time lmao.

I'd still, personally, pick Drake. But the two aren't really too far off in comparison.

Yeah I was a jitt when Nelly was popping in the 2000s...4 years old when Sweatsuit dropped. But I remember he had a s*** ton of hits on the radio and honestly I dig “Over and Over”...definitely a better crossover of hiphop/country than “Old Town Road”

Nelly is Drake before Drake tbh he was f***ing huge. That Bad Boys for Life song with Diddy was a moment lol

Ngl I thought this thread was a joke when I read the title of it. But the more I thought about it, it seems like a fair comparison. I'm gonna go with Drake because he has multiple good projects, while Nelly only has Country Grammar and Nellyville. Sweatsuit had some good singles but overall really mediocre projects.

You may want to check out SweatSuit again

Bait, but Nelly was good for his time. Unfortunately for people back then rap has progressed and Drake is the goat.

Yeah especially the Suit side, it really shows how far ahead he was at the time.

After SweatSuit yeah that’s when the falloff happens lol

Michael Jordan was damn good, but Lebron is a specimen the likes of which we've never seen before. Same situation here all of those guys were decent, but Drake has raised the level of the game.

Come on and come over to my place

Crazy thing about this song is, this wasn’t a hybrid rap/r&b song.....this was an r&b song. No one was doing it like him.

    Exactly, dude was an innovator.

Could effortlessly switch between different styles of rap/r&b too
