i don’t think that’s what they saying and i think even the conclusion they actually give is a stretch but im open to be corrected
they say that neolib survey didnt indicate that neolib values lead to higher ideation, but stronger correlation in stigma against suicide
and then used older studies that indicated a link between stigma against suicide with higher severity of suicidal thoughts that occur to indicate that neolib values might be a risk factor
but this doesn’t seem at all like an accurate thing to infer from this info that neolib grindset values->stigma against suicide->more likely to kill self

Yep. Fraud piece

If neolib values lead to higher stigma, and higher stigma leads to higher risk of suicide, what else is needed to make that inference besides replication studies with a less biased sample

“Notably, the authors did not find a significant effect of neoliberal values on suicidal ideation.”
The conclusion researchers reach is “neolib values aren’t correlated with suicidal thoughts, but it fosters risk factors that are otherwise associated with suicide” which is very different than “neolib values lead to higher risk of suicide.”
can’t just force a conclusion that the researchers themselves admit isnt there.

Did you actually read the article?
It doesn't increase suicidal ideation, but it increases the severity of suicidal thoughts and suicidal ideation stigma, which increases the likelihood of suicide.

yes i did
a correlating with b and b correlating with c doesnt mean a correlates with c.
i could give a million examples mr mamba but i like you and your posts so im not gonna argue over this because idk if youre willing to engage in good faith.
Op literally disproves his own thread title in the last few paragraphs of the op
suicide != suicide ideation

And that's why more research is needed to confirm the relationship as i acknowledged itt and was stated in the artucle's conclusion, but it's a good study to start and they have a solid theory backing it up

your second line doesn't apply when there is a casual relationship between B and C

yeah its an interesting concept for sure on the stress that neolib culture creates. no denial there
i think more meaningful research would have to be done on these values in people who have killed themselves if the ideation link isn’t there
but obviously that would be very difficult to conduct and idk probably ethically dubious too

not true sir
simpsons paradox
Work is a religion in this sick f***ing country, grindset culture motherfuckers are soulless and idiotic

It's hard to directly prove the link between those increased suicide risk factors and the origins of those risk factors, because well, it's hard to survey people who committed suicide
But the increased severity of suicidal ideation and risk factor are already something in and of itself too

yeah the severity part was by far the most interesting piece of the study to me
pitting people against each other and putting money over everything in the decisions you make as an individual who's alone in this world and everybody is out to steal your status and ressources is unhealthy?
