Roc A Fella didn't want to invest in non-street hip-hop artists then. No one in the mainstream (at that time) was making music like Ye.

Coodie still ended up being right tho

He said Ye gonna hate the way Hype directs the video and then they'll wind up making the video together.

It's true, Jesus Walks had 3 different videos

Hype Williams vid was the best version tho IMO

Just thinking how it was meant for Ye to travel to LA to produce beats for whatshisname, even though I know Ye probably didn’t want to. But that created an entire storyline that propelled him. Man this doc is so good.

It’s just interesting how others saw his talent at rapping but they didn’t.

That Biggie sample at the beginning of Breathe In Breathe Out

The part with Hov producing Ye is so fire. You rarely get to see that side of rap on cam.

Lmao bruh his face Everytime he did a take was priceless

I never seen Ye so nervous and unsure if somebody gonna like his s***. The facial expressions said it all

Ye was uncomfortable as f*** on the ROC, no wonder he became so cocky. Bro literally passed from bottom of the barrel to the top

Yah in hindsight it seemed so obvious but at that specific time gangsta rap was at its absolute peak and everyone was looking for the next 50 cent. 50 had the biggest debut since Doggystyle. Ye was like the opposite of that lol with his polos and backpacks didn’t fit the rocafella image, so I get where they were coming from

It was really fun to see how ye came to think he was gonna be the best dressed rapper, I never understood it when I was Younger, thought it was a gimmick, this added context shows me that he always studies and finds things he wants to do better within the spaces he’s in.
