this documentary should be one 2 hour film comprised of stuff from Part 1 and 2. It should be the tale of The College Dropout and that’s it. Coodie didn’t get enough footage to properly understand Ye’s other eras and tries to hastily sum them up through mostly footage already on YouTube.
I don't like how he skipped over Ye's impact and influence in music from albums like 808s and the new ground Ye broke from a music industry point of view from 07-16 and now again with Donda
But that being said, this stuff with the Kids See Ghosts and Feel Like That sessions is great to see. Wish we'd got to see more studio sessions and music in all the parts tbh
the first time was an accident
by the end it was obviously him joking because he was quick to end it like "bro ofcourse i know im playing around"
yall nevver had drunk friends? lol
Yeah I agree he played into bc he was drunk
But still kinda showed the celebrity out of touch was starting, then exponentially greater after Donda passed

He had no footage from then?
This is not a documentary on Kanye’s career, it’s a doc on Kanye and someone who wanted to make a Hoop Dreamz style doc on him bc he believed in him from day 1
We’re going to get more documentaries from Kanye’s career, there’s always cameras on him

yeah it’s like coodie thinks kanye stopped being great after TCD or something. clearly biased view. he’s one of those mf that always makes you remember the good old days
It really shows what kind of man Coodie is to still speak highly of Kanye after everything that happened. He always showed context to the clips of Kanye saying something “crazy”, he shut off the camera when he felt Kanye was speaking erratically, and never tried to paint him into a bad guy.
That’s a real brother right there
didnt help that Kanye was all glamoured out whilst Coodie looked the same haha it definitley painted the wrong picture
lol for sure - each era kanye elevating coodie staying the same was funny too
it was very unflattering, ill have to rewatch tomorrow
but the angle part 3 took left you feeling like "damn kanye switched up on coodie and the fame got to him" but really all his day 1s are still around to this day. greg, don, fest, hip hop etc
i think kanye was never as close with coodie as coodie makes it seem, coodie was a dude who was camera guy to him and once he was on he could afford to paint his own picture with the best camera ppl in the world
kanye girl in LA asks him about shooting in like 2003 and he admits he doesnt really know how to edit just good at 'directing'
yeah it’s like coodie thinks kanye stopped being great after TCD or something. clearly biased view. he’s one of those mf that always makes you remember the good old days
It was more about not having any footage from those eras
didnt help that Kanye was all glamoured out whilst Coodie looked the same haha it definitley painted the wrong picture
Lmao I think that’s why Kanye was moving away too, he has amazing artists documenting his life all of the time
like were just getting coodies perspective on this when theres 3 sides to every story
maybe thats why kanye said he wanted creative control
He had no footage from then?

Ik but have you seen this part yet?
There was a part where he was cutting between things in his life (his daughter growing up etc.) and things in Ye's life from 07-16.
It was moving tbf but I just felt like if you're going to include moments like Taylor Swift and Trump as clips, then you should also include some of Ye's creative achievements from that time - groundbreaking live hip hop shows like Glow in the Dark, Coachella etc., the influence of 808s, classics like POWER + Paris + Monster + New Slaves, doing Throne with Jay, the fashion journey better contextualised, the influence he'd had on the generation after (Trav, Cole, Drake etc. ...
Its just a bit shallow to do a supercut of 8 years of Kanye's peak and include barely any creative achievements outside of Rosenberg saying how good MBDTF is lol

Imagine Kanye could’ve bought the doc and morphed it with the rest of his documentaries
Yeah I agree he played into bc he was drunk

i play around and say worse s*** than that sometimes when im drunk tbh lol
also - i mean how do we even know theres no candid bts videos of him for like 15 years lol

I'm sure we'll get all that one day. But it might be like the Beatles and Get Back and take like 50 years lol. But one day

Yeah definitely
Coodie seemed to make the focus his relationship with Ye and Ye’s career.
I’m sure there’s footage of Kanye really coming up with ideas and designing tours and working with insane producers.
I mean this is an entire Kanye documentary and we don’t see Mike Dean nor Virgil Abloh once. It’s obviously just one perspective.
Part of Kanye’s brilliance is not staying stagnant and growing as an artist. That sometimes means cutting people off
that's not what I'm suggesting? Obviously that would suck. I'm not mad bout Coodie's part in the doc this is his life's work too. I'm saying it's f***ed up on Ye and his team's part that as much as Coodie believed in Ye, Ye didn't seem to believe in Coodie or the value of the work he was putting in to document Ye's career, he left him out of some of his most important moments
Okay yeah I agree completely. Sorry I’m just seeing so many people complain about just the fact that this doc is limited by coodie’s involvement when that’s a feature, not a bug
I wish they didn't put that tucker clip in at the end
real sour note to end things on
The scene off him on the plane
Rapping/mumbling into the phone on the plane was unsettling
Yeah definitely

I kinda like that aspect of the doc it feels honest and it gives you such a vibe for that era. Not just of Ye's career but of hip hop
It's really just that supercut that annoyed me because when you're at a distance using public footage you need to be fair, insightful and showing both sides of Kanye. You totally have to show some of his indefensible moments (like Bill Cosby innocent), but you also have to show the creative influence, innovation and greatness of that time, so people can understand Kanye's career. Otherwise I can see how it would just come off to a casual watching Netflix like 'why did people even still care about this guy'. Sure the controversies are notorious, but he's not interesting without the creative talent

100% agree
