Isn’t their most watched movie oat that Dwayne Johnson x Ryan Reynolds movie?

    Here’s the top 10

I think both you and I have much differing opinions on what makes a movie good vs the average joe.
You're giving "the audience" way too much credit.
Braindead blockbusters are much more up the alley of the average Netflix consumer than auteur films that demand focus and patience, let's be real.

Nah I hear you but it doesn’t even have to be straight up auteur films. That Chris Hemsworth joint was a fun blockbuster at least, only seen the 1st one not the sequel. And maybe their aim is to make more films like that? But they usually tend to be s***ty majority of the time.

They should give Michael Bay a contract (if he doesn’t already have one) instead of Noah then. The upside is these filmmakers can go back to theatrical releases hopefully.

I think the best gauge is, are their subscribers going up or down?

The movie with the bigger stars will get the most views. But just cus people watched it doesn’t mean they liked it.

It’s more so are they gonna get more subscribers with this motto cus that’s all they care about

Netflix co-signed a lot of bomb tv shows and even produced some bomb films since they’ve done their original content, but they’ve seemed to find a way to actually thrive when a lot of streamers had it rough in 22-23, so maybe their new direction is the way to go

I think A24 continuing to form an enterprise is really the best option for that subsection of film creators to thrive. Netflix, Apple, HBO, they’re more likely to change their creative direction the second the bottom line gets a lil ugly imo

iirc A24 announced they were shifting towards more blockbusters semi recently. Hopefully it doesn't impact their auteur films too much.

True. They’re gonna spend that money on star power in front of the camera instead of behind it

Civil war is their most expensive movie to date. If that’s an indication of a “blockbuster” for them I’m 100% with it

Yeah cus looking at that top 10 list it’s either movies with really big stars: red notice, don’t look up, gray man. Or films that got alotta hype on social media: bird box, leave the world behind.

So realistically that’s just a marketing thing. I prolly am giving the “audience” too much credit but maybe they didn’t know about the auteur type films and just lazily go to the bigger named movie.

  • Netflix still hasn't recovered from spending 200 million on The Irishman.

  • that autuer direction was probably only worth it if it attracted a certain subset of subscribers they were losing out on. guess it didn't help them that much. those s***ty movies like red notice are prob more worth their time.

  • where’d this worldofreel a****** spawn from

  • they don’t take any care of the great films they actually have in their possession to begin with, don’t feature them properly

Less the irish man and more rebel moon

  • More soulless "blockbuster" sludge

I have never wished for a company to tank more than Netflix

  • Netflix movies are basically ads for the service itself, promoted by whichever A list actor willing to take the check. Poor scripts, poorer cinematography, zero passion.

    Irish man

  • Damn

  • Netflix will bomb. But it's going to be a while. As long as people sub they'll be around. Hoping a new service will come to light and be the lead on the really creative films or i should say, just good films. Change the model. People really have no idea what they want but i have a lot of friends and family that i don't consider nearly as invested in films and art as I am and I've got my fiancee into a lot of cool s*** and they all are tiered of stupid hero films and corny blockbusters

  • Wasn’t aware they made “auteur” content to begin with

Glass Onion really might be the only good movie Netflix has pushed out that’s crazy

At least their shows fare a bit better
