I like this song, but confused as to why it’s a single. Definitely the sort of song you’d expect somewhat buried in a conceptual album tracklist. Maybe he just made it and was so excited abt it that he wanted to put it out quick?

I remember feeling the same way in high school, and at the time also being a big fan of Yeezus because it was willing to ride that line between hyper mainstream and also just a bit weird. Prior to alla, my one big criticism of Rocky was longlive was just a bit too radio-baiting, and then alla was kinda everything I wanted out of a Rocky album at the time. Listened to that album a ridiculous amount.
Then the guy disappeared for a few years, which wasn’t a long time at all, but being 16 when alla came out and 19 or 20 when testing came out, he’d kinda skipped the gap of my years when I was most excited abt new music (I remember loving Put That On My Set off cozy tapes tho). Looking forward to him finally dropping again soon.

Idk, I think the yachty album is a bit more on the nose than most of Rocky’s attempts at the psych sound. Rocky seems a bit more committed to a hip hop element in his psych releases (with the exception of Sundress).

Which is what he should do if he is still trying to rap. Mix it in a way that is still rap but different

This. Actually crazy to think he only dropped 1 solo album within a 8 year period. This has hindered the f*** out of his career more than people realize and Testing wasn't like Blonde level where the quality was worth his absence.

I think the fact that he’s still somewhat known despite dropping very rarely is a testament to the splash he had in 2011-2013ish.
Kinda remember not being surprised when he disappeared a bit tho- I used to watch a lot of interviews with these artists back then when I had the time, and I remember getting the impression he wasn’t incredibly occupied with his music and didn’t like putting anything out that wasn’t (a) genre bending and (b) something he thought would be well received. Think testing being received so tepidly made him lose interest even more.
Still wish we could’ve got a whole Three6 homage tape from him in 2016-17 tho, loved his songs that sounded like that at the time.
