The thing I hate about KTT is when the hate train starts up you guys start discounting the great parts about an artist/producer instead of just hating on what you are actually mad at.

I forget this site collectively chooses an artist to have a hate boner for. Was Tyler the Creator a couple years ago.

There was a time it was Travis Scott and people ran with the stories of him stealing beats, which valid, but it devolved into implying he’s never actually produced in his life. Insane narrative to run with considering Kanye f***ing West brought him under his wing and we’re supposed to believe he never actually touched FL Studio

I’ve yet to see anyone actually provide any proof or elaborate anytime they say something like this

If you listen to enough of their music, I would say it’s pretty obvious. If you’re a casual listener, it might be hard to point out.

Listen to basically anything form NERD then listen to something Pharrell exclusively produced like RIOT (Rowdy Pip’n) by Rocky and tell me you don’t notice a difference………….

I refuse to believe yall are willfully being obtuse in this thread. Chad literally plays instruments that P doesn’t……..when The Neptunes had natural, dynamic basslines who do you think played them…….it wasn’t P……..

I grew up in Virginia Beach & would’ve went to the same high school Pharrell did if my family didn’t move us before I started classes. I’ve probably listened to them more than you have and that said, you just named a song that was recorded damn near 20 years after most NERD’s music already released. Do better.

Just gonna leave these here since you’re gonna act like every single Pharrell beat since 2010 has been Cash In Cash Out

  • This doofus really said listen to Run to the Sun & then listen to RIOT! like the stuff Quincy Jones was producing on Off the Wall had the same sound as his 90’s Jook Joint album or Dre’s Aftermath era beats had the same sound as his NWA production

    Give me a f***ing break

D.O.I. - What roles do you and Pharrell play when making music?

Chad - We really don't have a specific role, but Pharrell usually makes the drum
patterns since he was a drummer. He also makes most of the melodies for
our beats. I sometimes make the melodies as well but I never write the
lyrics. As the Neptunes, I'm sort of like a one man band. For instance,
if Pharrell comes up with the drums, I either replay the pattern with different
sources, or at some live drums to his pattern. Then I add some sounds to the
drums and arrange it for it to be mixed.

D.O.I. - Is that how you guys started out as well?

Chad - Basically yes. That's how we make our beats 80% of the time. But sometimes
it varies according to the song. Sometimes we change roles and I write the chords and program the drums.

One, you’re mad corny. Two, you didn’t address anything I said from A TECHNICAL PRODUCTION POV. do you produce? Because I do and the difference is night and day.

That’s not to say P has lost it at all. Again, don’t be obtuse. I’m a millennial and I’ve been listening to both of these guys for most of my life. From deep cuts, to demos.

yes I think this beat is lacking certain dynamics from the peak neptunes era but this is from 2018 bro, when the neptunes had split 12 years prior in 2006 when P did HHNF.

like I really think we can chalk it up to a stylistic change, especially when this isn't what Pharrell solo beats sounded like in 2011. there's a long period of him making beats on his own that are absolutely in line with the classic neptunes sonic canon.

obviously Chad is important , talented, and a legend. they were a duo. they were equals and heightened each other's strengths as they should have.

Chad is the reason The Neptune’s’ beats had depth. He’s also responsible for the groove. P’s solo stuff lack dynamism and is pretty linear in sound

Was Chad on the last NERD album? That album I felt had a lot of sonic depth.

Pharrell has done various things people don’t like over the past 15 years as well as a general over reliance on trap sounds has made people over credit Chad and try to s*** on P; we dont like you anymore we discrediting everything you ever did lol

Whether P did the drums, sound effects or the melodics both of them were integral to that sound and whatever you think P has done after their breakup and how good or not it is, Chad hasn’t done much of anything at all or definitely at least not more that Pharrell. Not like Chad is out here still doing prime Neptunes s*** either. Mfs weird lol

We seen em link for that Brent faiyaz song already.

They jus ain’t that good anymore

Although the last NERD album was great but apparently Pharrell mostly did the production on that anyway
