He had more opportunity and chances as a young hood nigga rappin from Compton on and Indie label, who started off as the hype man for the premier artist on that label at the time.. than the melodic rap signing hybrid that came up under the hottest rapper at the time, and was used for Hooks for that same very rapper and his peers??

The guy who his own fans have bragged about him being hand to hand with certain powerful music execs even more than he did in his own raps, until he sued?

    on the mainstream scale absolutely

    i mean look at lupe

Atlantic tried to force him to dilute his art for the masses and he didn't, so they dropped him

you can either keep it 100 and go the lupe route, where the grammys snub you (Samurai was fire, not even 1 nomination) , the magazines don't write about you, and the industry works against you

or you can go the kendrick route, where you are propelled by the same machine you pretend you're against and the media complex loves you, while the award shows throw em at you

this is why lupe went at kendrick, he sees him as a corporate activist. if he really wanted to watch the party die he wouldn't bend over for the machine

    Weird

"Atlantic tried to force him to dilute his art for the masses and he didn't"

Lasers literally exists. That was him actively diluting his art to appeal to the masses. The album was ass but a commercial success. While still on Atlantic, he made F&L 2 and Tetsuo & Youth. Both were albums he made of his own vision, and were supported by Atlantic. They performed well critically, and while not as commercially successful as Lasers, they still sold well. I believe F&L 2 even got a Grammy nomination.

There's a lot that can be said about Atlantic in regards to how they handled Lupe's career. But if F&L 2 and T&Y was Atlantic "Diluting his art" then I don't wanna know what he called Drogas Light, an album that he released after leaving Atlantic

Lupe Fiasco easily could've been bigger if he wasn't going on TV calling Obama a terrorist, or performing at Obama's 2013 inauguration and rapping about America's war and prison complex. Not that I disagree with either, but the fact that Atlantic didn't drop him after either of these things is very surprising to this day lmao

  • Mind you that nigga Lupe Fiasco NEVER dropped Crack with Chris Brown and that track was gonna be a bonafide slapper. You mean to tell me that Atlantic blocked him from dropping that?

He never released F&L 2 Pt. 2, and I refuse to believe that Atlantic willingly blocked the second part of his Grammy nominated album that performed well and had great singles off it.

Atlantic is a s*** label, but as a fan of Lupe, I'm not about to sit here and lie like Lupe also wasn't on some bullshit with dropping his music.
