I’m at chapter 3
First time playing this, I’m surprised how immersive it is I didn’t know there’s audio hallucinations, that’s a 10/10 addition Idk if that should be spoilered or not
OG john carpenter s*** going on
Alot of show don’t tell going on
I love how it’s made, I hope there’s a tragic ending I hate happy endings in situations like this
I love the sci-fi alien gone wrong story more
its a videogame love letter to all the greatest horror (especially sci-fi horror) films

Yeah bro I didn't expect all elements to connect like this
The closed off vibe video game wise is Arkham Asylum reminiscent but everything else is peak 80s horror

yeah the game design itself contributes heavy to the trapped feeling. Perfectly designed for horror

I heard before it felt like he a silent protagonist and he was told what to do and ruined the immersion
Now cause he an engineer and he talks some of the solutions he's adding make sense instead of being told all the time
At least so far from what I've seen, I'm still pretty early

yeah they added a voice actor in the remake and its the same guy who does his motion capture/face model.
You're definitely still in the early parts, s*** ramps up

I even purchased Fort Solis, feels like something I'd like even if there's no combat

I’ll try a platinum next summer
I really liked this one
Classic
Literally can’t wait to play this, but I need to my backlog is so f***ed
Great news folks, I finally did it
Finally getting around to this, truly a classic. On chapter 10 and I don’t want it to end only flaw imo is the maps are dogshit and hard to navigate, at least on ps5. But the combat, story, and puzzle mechanics are all perfect.
Played dead space 2 and honestly it’s kinda mid, they abandoned the interesting level design of the Ishimura and opted for a linear hallway shooter that takes you randomly from place to place. The first one was just so good. Exploring that giant ship, feeling lost in space, the constant backtracking and feeling trapped. You lose the atmosphere and tension that made the first one so classic.
The zero-g segments were a lot of fun though, just wish there was more of them

Never played 2 but yeah I’m not surprised. Trapped on a derelict spaceship with monsters afoot is a classic horror trope and probably my favorite setting in sci-fi creepiness (Metroid, prey, alien, system shock).
Wish there were more games with this setting tbh

Never played DS1, from what I understand DS2 is more action oriented. Still an objectively amazing game with great setpieces. I think you just don't like that it's different from part 1
Don’t even wanna finish ds3 whole series fell apart, it’s just an action game now. Not even remotely horror. I think I’ll just replay dead space remake and that’s what I’ll remember the series as. It didn’t even need a sequel it’s such a 10/10 survival horror classic
what sequel?
Praying they make a dead space 4 that goes back to the survival horror roots and open level design from the first game

damn, you think they could remake DS2&3 and do them properly? Or they require a total reboot changing the story direction completely?

I will say they’re both solid games, just not as survival horror-y which they could change by rescaling combat and loot and fixing the overall atmosphere
2 is a bit too linear but they could fix that by re-doing the map
3 makes a lot of improvements and the addition of side quests make it feel a bit more open. I think they added that new quest mechanic to dead space remake as well so adding that to dead space 2 could definitely do it favors
Overall, it would be a lot of work and maybe those resources would be better spent on dead space 4 …

As far as I understand it though, because each game “raised the stakes” so to speak, a dead space 4 would have to provide some kind of resolution to the trilogy like the theorized using Ishimura to crack brother moons which ups the ante even further, devaluing the horror.
Raising the stakes and by necessity changing the location settings and upping the action reduced the horror in DS2/3. A large part of the tension felt in DS1 is because you’re trapped on the ship.
I wouldn’t mind seeing “spin offs” where we play another character trapped in some location dealing with the same s***.
