i’m talking more in the traditional hiphop paradigm of how he feels about beef/competitors/his place in rap. we’ve heard it for a decade and a half and we know what he’s about. i wanna see more interesting formats and his last three with yachty, the barstool guy, and this girl all seem to be more on that edge
Those questions are boring as f***. Who gives a damn about rap beefs and which rappers he's friends with? Imagine asking the biggest name in rap music silly questions like that at this point in his career? That's exactly why he won't do those interviews. He knows what they'll ask and he doesn't care to answer those questions. Even Kendrick/Cole aren't doing any press so it's not just Drake, it's every legit superstar.
I can't remember the last time Taylor Swift sat down for an interview. Beyoncè as well. There's just a general reluctance for the biggest names to do serious, long-form sit-down interviews anymore because:
1. Journalism, all across the board, has never sucked this much before.
2. Thanks to social media, they're more empowered than ever before to control their own narratives and their own image.
3. A lot of times, these artists do interviews just to have their words twisted and misconstrued, leaving them in a worse position PR wise than they were before they did the interview, often times because of a leading question they got asked to fish for that very reaction.

I think Drake purposely avoids doing serious long form interviews with people who are Dialed In to rap music because they have less bias and won’t ask him questions about music. Drake the celebrity is the one talking to most interviewers, not Drake the Rapper
