Aye y'all I highly recommend reading my homie's article on this whole issue to get a better understanding of where people are coming from who are going at Cole. Many gems
kuro, andre's whole s*** falls apart when it's predicated on the notion that J Cole was "policing a messenger" when she did the exact same s*** to him in the first place. Are we gonna forreal act like there was NOTHING wrong with her initial approach? Yall out here villanizing this man as if she didn't start out with a whackass take.
We cannot be actually sitting here basically saying "Instead of responding to this woman who unjustly criticized him, he should be PRAISING her".
Even though he did that anyway in the song.
And asking for help or understanding isn't demanding to be coddled. Nigga said "If I could make one more suggestion, respectfully, I would say it's more effective to treat people like children: understanding the time and love and patience that's needed to grow." Nowhere does that say he wants to coddled and spoon-fed information. Yet yall steady go on about how "he's a 35 year old man he too big to not be--" No, this is exactly what tf he was talking about. No patience. No understanding.
If Noname could receive patience and understanding, and in kind did the same, when she got off her aggrandizing Captalism s***, no matter her age, then why should Cole be any different?
This is exactly why I was so heated off rip because what she did was stupid and b****y for someone that should have the well-rounded understanding that she does from reading from such sagacious sources--and yall over here instigating not only it but a slew of other maligned reasoning that does more to separate us than anything.
I’ll leave it at this Cole was just being honest on this record and this wasn’t a diss to no name. He literally just addressed her that’s it. This cancel culture s*** is corny. Cole doesn’t need to address s*** over social media there’s only so much that s*** does at the end of the day. Who knows what most “celebrities” are really doing during these times behind closed doors. Despite Cole being one of the biggest hip hop artists alive he lives a super private life and has a family and he don’t put that s*** on social media like a lot celebrities do. Very few rappers actually have the balls to go out and protest with no security too. There’s been multiple videos of Cole in Fayetteville protesting with the community. He don’t need to be on social media addressing s***.
Completely agree that life is much more than social media, and what’s done behind closed doors is far more important - although given that the current situation is so high profile and almost every celeb and business has voiced something on it, it does still strike me as weird that he hasn’t said anything.
But you gotta acknowledge in any case this s*** is in bad taste. Of all the things you coulda done or said in public right now you make some weird semi diss track just illustrating that your ego is hurt, and tryna police how woke woke people should be?
Also just puts me in mind of that old weird f**got line he used a while back - Cole saying one thing and doing the bare minimum to try and act like he’s not so it doesn’t come in for criticism.
Strange and corny af imo

My main issue with Cole and this song is the timing of it. Black women are frustrated. Deservedly so. Now is the time to listen to what they're saying. Reflecting on it. Making a more conscious effort to improve and do more.
Cole can critique Noname all he wants, there's validity to his feelings. However, we must also understand the validity of Noname's tweet and feelings as well.
It isn't and it should never be divisive to say that one needs to do better or do more when they are able to. It's a fact. Especially when what needs to be improved is the overall treatment of black women by black men. If that's "divisive" that really says that you're not tryna improve the conditions we are in.
On top of that, Noname has done alot in terms of providing resources and tools in which one can educate themselves in regards to her growing book clubs. If J Cole truly believes in people being educated, instead of using his massive voice and platform to make a song that critiques a black woman who is justifiably pissed off with the treatment of black people and black women, maybe his platform and voice would've been much better served to further promote her book club so it grow even larger and proving more people an opportunity to engage and learn, even if they come from places that lack resources. Her book club meetings take place in local community shelters, public schools, church groups, etc in different cities across the US.
This is where the shut up and listen to black women airing out their frustrations bit comes into play, and instead of trying to add a rebuttal, you just start doing better by black women, instead of trying to talk down on them.
Seems like black men and women been goin at it on twitter since that story about that woman being rated and murdered by a black man

There is no validity to her tweet/feelings
Same black people she criticized were actually doing the things she said they weren't.
Niggas really just going into "we gotta protect black women" mode to the point when nobody wants to actually address that she was in the wrong from the start.
They’re going to seriously goad him into making an apology and taking this song down over him doing nothing wrong. He stated his opinion. He gave his point of view. He didn’t name names, and he wasn’t demanding anything or insulting anyone.
I get the stupid j cole hate memes but it’s not like he made himself out to be some savior in this song nor did he put down anyone or anyone’s thoughts. The fact that he’s getting pushback from this is more indicative of other people than it is of j cole.

Just listened to the song now that I had a min and couldn’t agree more. I thought it was very thoughtful and he shouldn’t be getting heat. If anything he’s critiquing himself more than anybody. Tf
the whole outro is almost a mantra he’s gonna grow with or something. I thought it was nice.
People get salty as hell when people wanna make a strong statement and express opinion that challenge thought. People now are so quick to attack someone over different opinions. It usually gets twisted by their view and the original intent gets lost in some cases
Idk maybe I’m off base but open thoughts after listening to it twice
You know mfs are bored af without any entertainment when this is the s*** crashing the internet rn

Every time a black artist says disagrees with another black artist social media doesn’t know how to handle it.

Facts. I will never not say that this song in its existence isn't wholly dumb and Cole is not reading the room. It's one thing to have your insecurities; t's another thing to have them make you.
But the treatment of black women was not the initial point of this whole situation. It started out with Noname's problem with the harolded names in her industry, men, who are not on social media utilizing their platforms to spread awareness about the times--not keeping in mind that they've never really done that, acting on social media in regards to serious issues (at least Kendrick never has) and always handled things personally, be it grief or support for a cause. So her complaint just seemed misaligned and presumptuous.
Now Cole responding to Noname is what made it a conversation about the treatment of black women. The way Cole responded, while not ill-conceived, was not at all constructive or to any benefit of Noname. For the most part he acquiesces superior intellect to her and asks for understanding. But all that s*** about growing up woke in her household and the distillation between earning a college degree and still not educating one's self on issues that people like Noname read about was very dumb. J Cole himself not making the most of his resources is, in fact, his fault--but the point is to be kind anyway, especially to the ignorant because they need the most help.
And while I think he was speaking on behalf of people who do not have half the mindset or resources that he or Noname have, and critically need to during these times--need that help--it was a misnomer because he cannot realistically expect Noname to reach the people Cole is talking about. If Cole knows those people then he should reach out to them.
I think the issues with the song are less about a lack of perspective about black women and more on the inefficiency of a rapper who talks about issues he admits he doesn't have much education on, nor has he attempted to throughout his entire career. So, in a way, if Noname can be chastised for her lack of perspective while she was still Noname Gypsy and changed, then so can Cole through this. I just think people are focusing on the wrong thing. They're making this a matter of gender violence or abuse when it's milquetoast in that respect.
I appreciate you having a dialog with me. I should've came that way from the jump instead of blowing up the way I did because I was upset that Noname seemed concerned about tweets, initially.
Song is nice mainly because of the beat but why is Cole whining again? someone needs to check this nigga, his whole I'm holier than thou mentality is laughable tbh.
