Obviously can't base a whole world off my experiences but this is legitimately shocking for me to hear because I saw nothing but love for new Patek after release in my day to day life and online

Also wasn't it multiple causes for the hiatus/EA delay?

It def got love for sure but you gotta also remember what it means for a song to be so hyped and them come & go upon release. With the level of pure excitement it had it should have performed like XO TOUR LIFE but better

There were def multiple reasons EA got delayed but its lead single failing to take off was a gigantic one

    I get you

Gonna get some Uzi historians in here to ask about their thoughts on this

It was the first time Uzi really saw his fans turn on him.

As a snippet shared on twitter New Patek broke the internet. Insane views and insane hype. It was due to be the lead single from EA and Uzi had been on a run of really good features.

When it came out it was almost 6 mins long, in a time where songs were 3 mins or less.

The song was good, but far too long, by the second week everyone had moved on from it. It didnt perform as well as it should have or would have it was much shorter.

After this we get a small hiatus. He comes back with his dreads cut off and seeming lost as following singles fail to take off too.

After this he starts dabbling into gimmicks and even moreso after EA is finally released

    Thoughts?

    I disagree,

New Patek was never intended to be on Eternal Atake or a single for the album, as Uzi said here in this interview from 2018 the day New Patek dropped:

    thefader.com/2018/11/27/working-on-dying-lil-uzi-vert-interview/amp

“When Working On Dying’s manager, Finesse, digs at him, asking why “New Patek,” which is produced by Dolan Beats, dropped before their songs together, Uzi scrunches up his face. “Because it didn’t make my album,” he fires back, referring to the single.”

In regards to the length of the track, I think making it almost 6 minutes was just a classic Uzi subversion of expectations. No one expected it to be that long when we first got the snippet so to hear him flowing for 6 minutes was hype asf and he goes tf off throughout

Personally the length of the track makes it wayyy more unique and it got love from the jump, although I understand your point about the length killing traditional single potential I just think this further cements the idea that it was also just meant to be a loosie

The hiatus after this was caused by actual album-tracks leaking in September/October 2018 (Of Course, 1600 & Run it Up). But he didn’t cut his dreads off until January/February 2019

Also disagree about following singles falling to take off, the following singles were Sanguine Paradise & That’s A Rack and they still get so much love to this day. Sanguine is widely considered one of his best songs ever and I believe both are certified platinum
